Description
The Director of Optical Manufacturing is a critical leadership position responsible for managing our lab operations across three shifts, ensuring that we consistently exceed our standards for quality and efficiency. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role demands a leader who is a master communicator, creative, self-motivated, and holds themselves accountable for the lab’s performance.
- Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement in turn times while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reducing breakage. Develop strategies for effective data utilization to enhance throughput and productivity.
- Leadership and Development: Lead a team of approximately 25, including seven departmental managers, fostering a culture of accountability, mastery, and cross-functional training to fill knowledge gaps and enhance team resilience.
- Innovation and Implementation: Spearhead the successful implementation of AR coating and other technological advancements to streamline operations and reduce dependency on external services.
- Quality and Integrity: Implement rigorous quality control measures and foster a culture of integrity and excellence across all lab operations.
- Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of Frames and Contacts to ensure seamless integration of lab operations with broader company objectives.
- Expertise and Mastery: Become an expert in our lab operations and DVI optical manufacturing system, leveraging this knowledge to drive innovation and efficiency. Ensure mechanical aptitude to creatively address operational challenges.

Requirements
- Proven experience in managing manufacturing operations, with a preference for those with optical lab experience.
- Demonstrated ability in leading large teams and managing managers, with a focus on developing strong leadership within the team.
- Strong analytical skills, with an emphasis on process optimization and data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to get buy-in and foster a team-oriented environment across multiple shifts.
- Mechanical orientation and the ability to troubleshoot and innovate within a manufacturing setting.
- A commitment to professional development, with ABO certification preferred or the willingness to obtain certification.
- A college degree beneficial but not required; emphasis on relevant experience and demonstrated capability.
