AP Giannini Middle School is a public school located in the Outer Sunset of San Francisco. With over 1,200 students in grades 6-8, APG boasts a 15,000 square foot garden with 17 vegetable beds, a native area, chickens, a rainwater catchment system, a food forest with young fruit trees, and a small greenhouse. The Outdoor Science and Garden Educator is managed and employed by BACR’s APG Beacon site and works collaboratively with APG teachers and admin to create and facilitate outdoor lessons that incorporate students’ curricular studies in math, science, ELA, social studies, art, nutrition, and sustainability.
Beacons are a citywide model in San Francisco in which community based organizations (in this case BACR) work within middle and elementary schools to support students, families, and the community.
