Black Futures Lab is a 501(c)3 that transforms Black communities into constituencies that wield independent, political power at the municipal, state, and federal levels. The problems Black communities face are complex; the solutions to those problems require imagination, experimentation, and political power. The Black Futures Lab combines strategies that help us imagine the alternatives we deserve while building political power at the local, state, and national levels to implement those alternatives.
The Black Futures Lab is hiring a Human Resources Generalist. This is a remote and shared position with Black Futures’ Lab sister organization, Black to the Future Action Fund. The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the Senior Manager of Human Resources, works closely with all staff within the organization, and is an Administration department member.
The HR Generalist will support BFL’s growing staff by providing a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding support, compliance monitoring, policy research, and systems administration.
A successful HR Generalist is engaging, people- centner HR professional who is detail-oriented, thrives on organization, a self –starter and collaborative team member. They embody a strong understanding of human resources fundamentals, compliance, and confidentiality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Records Management:
- Maintain and update personnel files throughout the employee life cycle from application to exit interview.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with Federal and applicable local employment laws and internal policies.
- Ensure job descriptions are maintained and are up to date.
- Update staff contact information annually and as needed.
- Update organizational chart quarterly.
- Ensure all staff onboarding paperwork is filed appropriately.
- Track and update internal systems to reflect current structure and staff comings, goings, and transitions.
- Take notes in select confidential HR meetings as requested and ensure appropriate filing.
Recruitment Coordination:
- Support hiring managers and Senior HR Manager in ensuring job descriptions are aligned with BFL standards and salary structure.
- Create and share templates, guides, and resources for hiring managers and hiring teams.
- Assist with the posting and sourcing of applicants for open roles.
- Conduct reference checks and create reports for candidate profiles.
- Ensure hiring documentation is compliant and filed in an organized, consistent, and legal manner.
- Ensure communications with all applicants throughout the hiring process.
- Notify the Senior HR Manager if any issues arise in the hiring process that need support.
HR Team Member:
- Serve as a thought partner with Admin team members on monitoring the effectiveness of existing policies and forecast ideas and development for new/updated policies and procedures.
- Learn, develop, and advance all skills to grow HR competencies.
- Train to serve as fully prepared second to Senior HR Manager on key HR functions, including Onboarding,New Employee Orientation, Recruiting, and Benefits Administration
Project Management:
- Manage HR projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely delivery.
- Conduct post-project evaluations, assess outcomes, and prepare progress reports for senior management review.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5 years of human resources experience
- A demonstrated commitment to justice and liberation for all people and alignment with our core mission and values.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to work with people across many differences and to establish and maintain trusted and effective working relationships.
- Skilled active listener who can make people feel heard and understood, even when we cannot meet a need or change a policy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office & G Suite or related software.
- Experience managing an HR tech stack – ATS, HRIS, Performance Management platforms, PEO experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- All staff work remotely. Office hours are 10 am - 6 pm local time. Work hours may be adjusted to accommodate team members in other time zones.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including evening and weekend events, as necessary.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

- Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and responsibilities. The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000-$85,000. We offer a competitive health benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and a generous paid time off schedule. This position is 40 hours per week, salaried, and exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
