Launched last year, Laniakea is a lean, high-growth hedge fund specializing in relative value (RV) volatility strategies across multiple asset classes. The company combines rigorous analysis with industry experience to provide investors exposure to an underrepresented asset class. Our small, dynamic team of five is spread across London, Sydney, and the USA, and as a young startup, we’re looking for an operations hire who is excited to grow with us, get hands-on, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
This is a critical role supporting our fund’s operational, compliance, and financial activities. You’ll work closely with the CEO, and we’ll tailor your responsibilities based on your strengths in finance/accounting or law/compliance. we’re seeking an operations hire to establish and build out our operational foundation as we scale. This role offers direct exposure to senior management and the trading team, presenting a unique opportunity to shape the operational function within a dynamic startup environment.
Responsibilities:
- Define & Build Operations Function: Establish and implement efficient, scalable operational processes across the fund.
- Compliance & Regulatory: Develop and manage regulatory compliance processes, oversee filings, and support audits and due diligence.
- Tax & Financial Oversight: Lead tax compliance, oversee financial reporting, and coordinate with external advisors.
- Operational Readiness: Maintain records for investor reviews and audits, ensuring operational excellence and readiness for growth.
- Broker & Banking Relationships: Build and manage relationships with brokers, clearers, exchanges and banks to support seamless trading and settlement.
Requirements
Ideal Candidate:
- 3-5 years in finance/accounting or law/compliance, ideally within hedge funds, financial services, or startups.
- Background as a consultant or a start-up Chief of Staff is also plus, especially if you’re scrappy, proactive, and comfortable adapting quickly.
- Genuinely interested in markets and trading, with a curious, self-driven attitude to learn and grow.
- Comfortable in a scrappy, startup environment and eager to help build from the ground up.
- Based in NYC or willing to relocate.
Qualifications
- Experience in financial operations or legal - ideally within hedge funds or financial services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to navigate complex, high-stakes environments.
- Good understanding of financial markets, trading operations, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with senior management and external partners.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, with a readiness to adapt to new platforms as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
