Full Job Description
Under the supervision of the Property Manager, the Assistant Maintenance Worker performs custodial
duties to ensure that all buildings and/or dwellings are maintained in a clean and safe manner. The
Assistant Maintenance Worker also provides basic maintenance duties and repairs as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing of offices and program residences in accordance with NYS Dept. ofHealth COVID – 19 requirements, including but not limited, to sanitizing and wipe down of high touch areas.
- Keep premises clean and functional by performing general office upkeep, such as garbage removal, sweeping and mopping, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks e.g. changing light bulbs, replacing fire alarm batteries,carbon dioxide detectors; etc.
- Sweep and mop building hallways and stairs
- Sorting and removing trash and recycling from building as scheduled
- Prepare residences and offices for season/ weather changes (possibly including installing A/C units, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, etc.).
- Set up and removal of small appliances in program residences as needed.
- Turn over all elements of vacated apartments in preparation of new participants, including but not limited to, cleaning apartment and appliances, painting, plastering, installing window blinds and garbage and furniture removal.
- Move, load, offload, and transport furniture, assemble and install furniture and equipment.
- Work with Maintenance Superintendent on ordering and inventory control of supplies and equipment.
- Assist with any other specific projects on an as-needed basis.
- Other tasks as assigned by management
- Performing a variety of light construction duties such as drywall installation and patching, painting, light bulb and fixture installation, drain and sewer line stoppages.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience of experience in janitorial, custodial and/or maintenance work.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience working with homeless population in shelter, transitional or permanent supportive housing or similar setting preferred.
- Ability to lift and move at least 65lbs or more on a daily basis, walk up and down stairs,
- Some experience using power tools (hand drills, saws, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and a part of a team.
- High school or General Equivalency Diploma
- Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred
