About Sankofa Montessori

Sankofa Montessori is the only State Charter School Commission-approved tuition-free K-6 Public Montessori Charter school in Georgia. We were approved in July of 2022 and will open our doors in the Fall of 2023 to welcome 168 Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders. Our vision is to awaken the inherent greatness in each child. We achieve our vision by providing a culturally responsive, child- and family-centered Montessori education so we can develop in all of our students the knowledge, skill, and agency to have a life of purpose.

Role Summary

The enrichment teacher is an inspiring teacher who is responsible for creating enrichment opportunities for students . The enrichment teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of activities through a variety of planned experiences.

Role Information

  • Lead a peaceful, orderly, rich, nurturing classroom
  • Foster relationships with families to enable open and responsive communication about student growth and needs.
  • Full-time role. Work hours will vary with the published school calendar; instructional hours are roughly 7:15 AM - 4:15 PM (dismissal 1:00 PM on Wednesdays but faculty/professional development meetings until 4:15).
  • Assist with periodic school events outside of the normal schedule
  • Measures of success for position to include student academic growth, family satisfaction, observation feedback, performance evaluations, and related indicators
  • Reports to Instructional leadership
  • Key relationships: Students and Families, Teachers, support staff

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Creates a curriculum aligned to state standards for enrichment instruction for student
  • Differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body
  • Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and performances
  • Evaluates each student’s growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment
  • Cooperation with admin team and staff in providing enrichment activities for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
  • Serve as a classroom floater during unassigned teaching blocks

QUALIFICATIONS

For this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • Bachelor's degree (required), a plus if degree earned is aligned to the enrichment activity being proposed
  • Two or more years of effective teaching experience as a teacher
  • Ability to work with children at all levels
  • Willing to serve all children, regardless of background or needs, in an inclusive and supportive setting
  • Skills in instructional practices and classroom management for student achievement
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Warm and firm demeanor
  • Work collaboratively with a growth mindset.
  • Give and receive feedback in a spirit of craftsmanship
  • Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Can complete physical demands of the role (including standing and walking for extended periods of time and lifting heavy objects up to 40 Ibs)
  • Unwavering commitment to Sankofa Montessori’s mission and willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of Sankofa Montessori students, families, and staff
  • Successful background check results required

COMPENSATION

  • Sankofa Montessori’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The starting salary for this role is $45,000-$60,000 annually, based on years of experience and degree held. Sankofa Montessori is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization. Because of this, we do not negotiate salary offers outside our salary bands
  • We offer contributions to the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) in accordance with Georgia state law, as well as an additional, optional 403(b) retirement account.
