Full Job Description
The Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Staff Accountant. As a leading non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in our community, we are committed to providing assistance, support, and resources to those in need. The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in our organization by managing financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and assisting with financial reporting and budgeting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, utilizing accounting software
- Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate record-keeping and documentation
- Monitor cash flow and assist with cash management activities
- Reconcile bank statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Assist with annual audits and liaise with auditors
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and files
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
- Provide support to other departments regarding financial matters and inquiries
- Collaborate with team members to identify areas for process improvements and implement changes as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Prior experience working in the non-profit sector is a plus
