Full Job Description

About the Team:

If you are passionate about making a real difference in global health and development, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic, impact-driven organization at the forefront of evidence-based programs.

You will have the exciting opportunity to support fundraising across Evidence Action’s water, maternal and child health, and Accelerator focus areas. The Safe Water Now team reaches 9 million people in East Africa with safe drinking water, a proven intervention that reduces under-5 child mortality by about 25%, and is launching a groundbreaking technical assistance initiative in India. Our Syphilis-Free Start, at scale in Liberia and scaling up in Zambia and Cameroon, aims to prevent mother-to-child transmission of syphilis through increased screening and treatment. The Accelerator, Evidence Action's engine for new program development, incubates the next generation of evidence-based, cost-effective interventions.

About the Role:

Reporting to senior department leadership, you will work with program leadership and the External Relations and Grants teams to bring funding to our programs. You will help build compelling narratives about programs like our Safe Water Now and Syphilis-Free Start programs and map out approaches that can be tailored to a variety of audiences while working with our teams, donors, and other partners in our work.

This position will be located in Washington, D.C. and include ~15% international travel. There is a  possibility of remote work for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sector landscape analyses to identify program and funding trends, partners, high-potential donors, and other relevant partners.
  • Develop compelling proposal materials that are tailored for different audiences, both technical and non-technical.
  • Manage proposal processes from start to finish, including working with program teams to identify targets, converting concept notes into full program pitches, and providing input into the grant agreement and reporting structures.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors for target sectors, especially Safe Water and Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health, and track engagement via Salesforce.
  • Assess the fundability of early-stage programs to secure funding from governments, donors, and partners before the program enters field activities to help decide which programs we should bring to scale.
  • Assess and prioritize potential funding and relevant strategic communications opportunities, in collaboration with the External Relations team.

Requirements

  • 6+ years work experience with a background in the international development space with experience working with large funders like foundations and bilaterals, along with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • You have an established network of contacts in the International Development space, particularly with donors in the Safe Water, Maternal and Neonatal Health, and Nutrition sectors.
  • You enjoy building collaborative relationships with the ability to find common ground among internal and external stakeholders.
  • You have experience with fundraising techniques and strategies, including grant writing, donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • You can manage projects through their life cycles to coordinate fundraising activities, manage donors and priorities, and the  submission of proposals and reports.
  • You have knowledge of the donor landscape; including trends, priorities, and funding opportunities within the nonprofit sector.
  • You have experience working in global matrixed organization.
  • You have experience developing and delivering compelling written materials and presentations.
  • You can iterate in real time and absorb/synthesize a broad range of technical information.
  • You share our passion for the mission of Evidence Action and for creating value in international development.

About Evidence Action

Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development - we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. Our programs have grown since our founding in 2013 to reach over 515 million people globally with our interventions. We deliver high impact for every dollar spent, as recognized by GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, and Charity Navigator.

We do development differently. We take a data-driven approach to identifying, scaling, and continuously improving programs which deliver immense impact, ensuring these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions. Our Deworm the World Initiative has helped governments in Africa and Asia deliver over 1.8 billion childhood deworming treatments, improving health, education, and incomes. Dispensers for Safe Water provides sustained safe water access to over 10 million people in rural Africa, preventing childhood illness and deaths.

We drive innovation: Our Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We are ruthless in exiting programs which do not meet our criteria; those that advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.

We are global. Across  nine countries in Africa and Asia, our 700+ people are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and impact. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background - with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused.

We have big ambitions. Over the next decade, we’re setting our sights higher: We aim to reach over 600 million people globally to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action - because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.

We need great people. Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for people who share our passion for evidence, cost-effectiveness, and scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and have a bias to action and results. If our vision and approach excite you as much as it does us, we invite you to join us.

We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of a U.S. employment visa at this time. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for roles based in the U.S.
