Full Job Description
The Chief of Staff serves as a key member of the AHLA senior leadership team, acting as an extension of the CEO to ensure the seamless execution of organizational priorities.The Chief of Staff plays a pivotal role in enhancing organizational effectiveness by optimizing decision-making processes, facilitating communication, and driving alignment across AHLA’s leadership team. This position is ideal for a results-oriented professional with a deep understanding of association management, strategic operations, and executive-level leadership. As a growing organization, this role will improve current processes and optimize organizational procedures for efficiency and productivity and lead in enhancing cross-departmental functions. This role reports to the President and CEO and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO, providing insight and recommendations to advance AHLA’s mission and goals.
- Collaborate and align with the SVP of Executive and Strategic Initiatives to tackle priorities on behalf of the Office of the CEO.
- Drive the execution of the CEO’s agenda by aligning resources, timelines, and deliverables across teams, facilitating clear and consistent communication and accountability across all functions.
- Support the CEO in cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, including members, and industry leaders.
- Engaging with the Board or Board delegates as needed.
- Prepare and develop all Board-related materials and communications and help manage the Board nominations process under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team and CEO.
- Partner with the CEO to prepare for committee meetings, member meetings, and external engagements, facilitating communication and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
- Prepare internal and external communications, briefing documents, and presentations on behalf of the CEO.
- Support the internal communications function.
- Represent the CEO in internal and external meetings as required.
Requirements
15+ years of experience in executive leadership, operations, or strategic planning roles; trade association and advocacy organization and communications experience a plus.
- Proven success in a business management role, with a special focus on executive-level advising and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to create polished executive materials and work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to navigate across teams and functions to drive organizational results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to make decisions and provide advice and counsel to senior executives in a fast-paced and complex environment.

Other:
- Position based in Washington, DC.
- Hybrid schedule – employees work in the office three days per week (Tuesday – Thursday).
- Moderate to significant travel is required.
