St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890, enrolling 946 girls age 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW
St. Catherine’s School seeks a committed and experienced Middle School Spanish teacher who is knowledgeable of middle school girls’ education and has a passion for working with middle school girls and faculty. As part of the Middle School team, this teacher will engage with faculty and students through the Middle School program in which we purposefully define program outcomes to benefit our girls. This MS Spanish teacher should be able to envision, design, develop, and implement a well-rounded 5th-grade Foundations program as well as a 6th-grade Spanish language program. The MS Teacher role will include serving as an advisor, meeting with two grade-level teams, collaborating with other MS Spanish teachers, and attending regular Department meetings. All teachers, as members of our community, establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents/caregivers, and colleagues.

Position Status: Salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 9-month
Hours of Work: Standard work week.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a classroom community based on the School's core values
- Implement and uphold the School’s access, equity, and belonging initiatives
- Develop and implement the Spanish curriculum that includes a focus on skill development
- Teach 5 sections which include 5th and 6th-grade Spanish
- Work collaboratively with and align with colleagues teaching same-level courses
- Serve as a 5th or 6th-grade student advisor
- Sponsor club activities
- Serve on School life committees when requested
- Find joy in working with students and the wider School community both in teaching and taking part in the broader life of the School
- Follow personnel policies as described in the Employee Handbook
- Attend faculty and departmental meetings
- Complete student reports in a timely manner
- Strong orientation towards teamwork and community success
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or in education with Spanish education emphasis; Master’s Degree desired.
- Experience in and passion for teaching Spanish at the Middle School level
- Demonstrates creative and energetic teaching
- Strong classroom management skills
- Articulate current trends in World Language education and proven history of implementation of these practices
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Facility with and strong implementation of educational technologies
- Uphold the high standards of the School’s established program
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
