The mission for the Accounting Associate is to support Wellings Capital's post-close investment activities and internal financial controls by ensuring the accurate and timely management of financial records and reporting, thereby contributing to the firm's financial integrity and success.

Job Type

Full-time (40 hours/week), salaried position. Flexibility to work from home 2-3 days per week but the Accounting Associate must live in the Lynchburg, VA area and will be expected to come into the office the other 2-3 days per week.

Compensation

Base salary range: $55,000-$65,000 per year

Responsibilities

First 90 days

  • Within 90 days, start processing and classifying at least 10 invoices per month with 90% or higher accuracy within two weeks of receipt
  • Within 90 days, complete the post-close compliance checklist for at least one investment within five business days of investment close

Ongoing

  • Accounts payable for all Wellings entities
  • Review monthly/quarterly financial reporting information from Wellings operators and compare to budget and interact with operators to get additional information as needed
  • Assist Director of Finance & Accounting with quarterly reports
  • Send monthly current pay invoices and process draw requests for preferred equity investments
  • Complete compliance checklist for investments post-close
  • Review and analyze projections and actual results from operators and DCF models from third-party valuation firm with Director of Finance & Accounting on a quarterly basis
  • Interact with third-party valuation firms to ensure valuations are completed within ten business days of quarter close
  • Assist Director of Finance & Accounting on working with external tax team on information requests, data analysis, any required registrations, filings, and return review
  • Assist with annual audits of various investment vehicles
  • Opportunistic ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the finance team
  • Consistently follow up and follow through

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in real estate or private equity
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant tax regulations is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Must demonstrate consistent clear and effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with investors, auditors, CPA firms, third-party valuation firms, Wellings Capital’s operating partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with ability to effectively time manage and maintain a high level of organization
  • Must be technologically savvy and not intimidated by learning new technology if necessary. Proficiency in the following tech platforms is ideal: Zoom, Google Suite, Asana, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
