Clinigen is a rapidly growing global specialty pharmaceutical and services company with a unique combination of businesses. Our divisions operate in a complex global regulatory environment and ensure that vital medicines are delivered securely on time and wherever they are needed in the world.

We are currently 1,100 people headquartered in the UK with global offices in the US, EU, JAPAC and South Africa with a headcount of 300 within the CS business unit. Clinigen has grown rapidly since we began, we are the leader in Managed Access programs and positioned well for an exciting future of continued expansion.

To support our growth we are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and driven VP Business Development to drive forward our highly successful Clinical Supply Management Business Unit. This is a commercial leadership role with responsibility for directing and driving the CSM Business Development team to deliver a rich pipeline of opportunities, meet KPIs, achieve new business targets and deliver the best experience to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Build and maintain a market-leading global business development function for CSM.
  • Develop and implement a detailed go-to-market strategy including target segmentation, CSM market position and value proposition, and sales messaging.
  • Optimize geographic coverage model to align resourcing and market opportunity.
  • Set and monitor sales and KPI targets for the BD team across the sales funnel.
  • Achieve personal and overall BD team new and growth business targets.
  • Define and implement consistent processes with supporting technology to promote a data-driven sales management approach.
  • Ensure BD accuracy of CRM entries to reflect a realistic forecast of sales.
  • Propose and implement incentive plan to deliver desired behaviors.
  • Maintain commercial relationships with key clients and support broader Clinigen opportunities.
  • Identify new strategic service opportunities, taking a lead on their development and creating marketing and sales plans to accompany them.
  • Establish effective communications across the BD team and relevant support functions.
  • Work as part of the CSM senior management team – to ensure collaborative approaches to the winning and successful development of the business.
  • Engage as an active member of the broader Clinigen commercial team to support Clinigen-wide commercial excellence.
  • Mentor the BD team to produce strategic account plans.

Business Planning:

  • Establish new business lead generation and targeting processes with effective outputs, monitoring performance.
  • Provide monthly CSM BD report to SVP BD and SVP CSM and provide weekly forecast generation.
  • Ensure regular and consistent research into the industry and client environment to inform and drive BD strategy, targeting and planning.
  • Support business expansion assessment into new geographies (organic and inorganic).
  • Maintain and make best use of budget for attendance at appropriate shows/conferences.

People Development:

  • Effective line management of the Global BDs which include the following responsibilities:
  • Ensure all direct reports have comprehensive personal development plans, aligned to objectives
  • Carry out performance reviews with direct reports, biannually as a minimum
  • Ongoing skills/competencies and development needs assessment with plan for addressing needs and gaps
  • Develop a strong sense of cooperation and teamwork with a focus on business goals and KPIs.
  • Provide constructive feedback to all team members and coaching where required.
  • Ensure the team works to the Clinigen values at all times.
  • Create a culture of continuous learning with the BD team.

Personal Development:

  • Ensure own targets are met.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with major relevant organizations, societies and networks.
  • Ensure knowledge of trends and developments in the Clinical Trials space is kept up to date and relevant.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with key Clinigen Group staff.
  • To follow, promote and enforce relevant SOPs, Job Aids, and Company policies and procedures
  • Perform other related job duties or responsibilities as assigned

People Management:

  • Build and manage a high-performing, collaborative team that works in line with the Group’s values at all times
  • Ensure the appropriate level of resource and expertise is in place and that this is structured in the most effective way to deliver the strategy
  • Ensure that the team have clear objectives in place and that they understand how these relate to the KPIs and the divisional and Group level strategy
  • Ensure all team members have development plans in place and regularly reviewed
  • Provide regular feedback to direct reports. Proactively address underperformance.
  • Ensure effective communication of key messages to the team from across the Group
  • Identify top talent and ensure there is a plan in place to retain them, keep them engaged and maximize their potential
  • Recognize and celebrate success on a team and individual level

Requirements

  • 15+ years working in the pharmaceutical industry
  • 5+ years proven management of BD teams
  • Proven experience in achieving sales targets for the past 5 years
  • Experience working in a global environment
