About the Role:
Movement labs is hiring for the role of Special Projects Director for the 2024 cycle. This role is a mission critical position for our Political Innovation Incubator - it leads execution for any political innovation idea that involves outside-the-box, off-the-beaten-path experiments.
This role will be responsible for moving dozens of ideas through the process of vetting, scoping, project planning and piloting them to assess if they have the potential to net over 1000 votes across the seven battleground states. If pilots are successful, work includes scaling those ideas up ahead of the 2024 election. This role will report to the VP of Political Innovation and will work closely with the Incubator Director.
This role will oversee several pilot projects. Two examples: Work with a community organization on the ground in a battleground state to provide crucial resources to voters prior to the election. Or, work alongside an organization recruiting DJs to host parties at polling sites. Work with them to coordinate and execute the early vote and election day parties to success.
This role will be responsible for quickly testing the effectiveness and feasibility of such programs and then scaling up those that prove most effective.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Incubator leadership team and the Experiments and Operations teams to coordinate special project priorities;
- Manage high-level inter- and intra-departmental pilot projects;
- Build one-of-a-kind, scrappy pilot projects from the ground up on a budget and a tight timeline;
- Keep pilots on track, and vendors working on pilot projects accountable to deadlines;
- Present pilots and a plan for execution weekly to the leadership team;
- Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure pilot experiments are vetted by the legal and compliance teams;
- Coordinate and track experiments’ successes and failures;
- Manage reporting out on short- and long-term progress toward goals to team leadership and key external stakeholders;
- Oversee administrative tasks for the mode, including tracking expenses, invoices, and budgets;
- Establish highly functional and efficient operational processes;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Our ideal candidate is someone who has:
- At least two cycles of political or issue-advocacy experience at a progressive organization or campaign; ideally in Advance, Operations or Organizing departments.
- Enjoy living in ambiguity while building projects collaboratively and creatively;
- Expansive experience working across different communities and geographies in an electoral and issue advocacy context;
- Experience managing external vendors;
- Eagerness and excitement to empower, coordinate, collaborate and troubleshoot with direct reports, lateral staff, and manage upwards;
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong working relationships quickly
- Tech-savvy and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Adaptable to unexpected changes and last-minute adjustments;
- Strong proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, our core tech tools: Airtable, Asana, Slack, Google Workspace;
- Well organized, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple competing priorities in a remote work setting;
- Excellent ability to exercise discretion;
- Passionate about fighting fascism and defeating Donald Trump by re-electing President Biden.
Benefits
