Primary Purpose: Reporting to the Deputy Editor, the Senior Food Editor is responsible for leading and helping to shape the Food vertical. This savvy and informed editor is in charge of writing and updating 20-30 stories per month in the Food vertical, including features, news, and evergreen content. The Editor should feel comfortable working across a wide range of topics, from debunking common nutrition misconceptions to assigning personal essays to editing posts on the foods that help manage chronic conditions.
The position requires impeccable writing skills and a masterful understanding of SEO best practices, along with a sharp eye for news and trends. The ideal candidate will have a stable of go-to experts in the food and nutrition space, including RDs as well as other food-adjacent pros. They will also have a strong and demonstrated interest in food and nutrition. Culinary education and experience with recipe development is not required, but a definite plus. You’ll be successful if you are dedicated to outstanding content, have great ideas, and want to drive the Well+Good Food vertical to new heights.
A typical day as a Senior Food Editor might include:
- Writing, updating, and/or editing a minimum of 1-2 stories daily
- Brainstorming and pitching trending food ideas off the news and current events
- Pitching and updating SEO and evergreen stories
- Utilizing tools like Google Analytics, alongside social media resources like TikTok, Instagram, and Google Trends to come up with fresh content ideas
- Identifying, interviewing, and developing relationships with a diverse group of food and nutrition experts
- Working alongside the Head of Content and Deputy Editor to shape the Food vertical
- Contributing to large scale editorial packages and brand projects
- Attending events and desksides to gather intel for content creation
- Ideating social video series, with an option to host 1-2 videos per month
- Keeping your finger on the pulse of the food and nutrition space in order to spot new trends
- Representing Well+Good across various online and in-person activations and platforms, reinforcing our brand authority
Requirements
What You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience writing, reporting and/or editing for a national brand in the food and nutrition space
- Experience editing stories that adhere to SEO best practices; finding and interviewing experts; and assigning to freelance writers
- On-camera experience—and/or an enthusiastic mindset about being on camera
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- In-depth understanding of the food and nutrition landscape, with an ability to identify trends
- Ability to juggle multiple stories in various states of completion at the same time
- Ability to use analytics tools and extract actionable insights from data
- Strong interpersonal skills that will help you build credible and authentic connections with our audience
- A creative approach to problem solving and a passion for high-quality digital content

Compensation:
The starting base pay for this role is $83,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, and other perks.
