Position Summary

We are seeking a Director of IT to join our growing Operations team.

This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff.

What You’ll Do

  • Hands-on with systems: You'll be responsible for the administration and configuration of collaboration tools used by our entire organization, including Google Workspace, Asana, and Figma.
  • Join an awesome team: You’ll work hand-in-hand with the Operations and People + Culture teams to bring scalable technology solves to our 100+ staff organization.
  • Lead the charge: Spearhead our IT strategy with a focus on innovation, security, and scalability. Your vision will shape how we use technology to amplify our impact.
  • Tech integration: Oversee the deployment and maintenance of cutting-edge technology that powers our operations. Ensure our systems are robust, reliable, and ready for anything.
  • Strategic partnerships: Collaborate with external partners and vendors to bring the best tech solutions to the table. Negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and keep an eye on emerging trends.
  • Security guardian: Manage data security with a keen eye, ensuring that our information and systems remain protected and our technology complies with all relevant regulations.
  • Innovation advocate: Stay ahead of tech trends and bring fresh, creative solutions to the table. Your insights will help us stay at the forefront of the clean energy movement. 

Requirements

The successful candidate demonstrates a passion for being a Director of IT and models excellence and integrity in all they do. This role will be a forward-facing role to the rest of the organization so the ideal candidate will have an exceptional knack for helping their teammates get the information they need in a speedy and professional manner. The selected candidate will also possess the following Core and Preferred qualifications and characteristics:

Core

  • Experience: 7+ years of IT management experience, including leading teams and managing large-scale projects, and enterprise architecture. Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
  • Data Strategist: Ability to understand the data needs of complex teams with different approaches, build a comprehensive data management strategy, and select tools and processes for efficacy, efficiency, and scale
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to challenges and opportunities and a lean toward scaling up repeatable processes and systems as solves.
  • Service-oriented approach to people: A strong desire to help staff get what they need in a timely manner with a joyful communication approach. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion: A genuine enthusiasm for our mission and a drive to leverage technology to create a sustainable, electrified future.
  • Core Skillset: Deep knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data management. Proficiency with cloud services, networking, and enterprise systems.
    • IT infrastructure management (networks, servers, and cloud services)
    • Cybersecurity practices and data protection
    • Enterprise software systems (e.g., CRM, ERP, HRIS)
  • Analytical skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking with a focus on troubleshooting and optimizing IT systems and processes, and experience pulling data from disparate sources and visualizing it for decision-making
  • Compliance knowledge: Understanding of relevant data protection laws and IT compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR and experience ensuring compliance in a complex environment

Preferred

  • Project management with a preference toward lean/agile methodologies
  • Experience with specific SaaS platforms: Google Workspace and Salesforce CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Experience with Tableau or PowerBi
  • Experience working in an organization receiving government grants with associated compliance requirements

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $160,000- $200,000

 USD, commensurate with experience. 

Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 11 paid holidays throughout the calendar year (13 days during Presidential and Congressional elections). We have an office closure between Christmas and New Year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment. Regular, full-time employees and part-time employees are eligible to take up to sixteen weeks of parental leave, in all cases related to birth, adoption, or foster care starting from the first day of employment.
