Full Job Description

This is a full-time position ideally located in the US West: Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA.  This person should be willing to accommodate global hours across multiple time zones periodically.

The Opportunity

The North America Business Unit is a dynamic team spanning North America and working on a suite of thriving, long standing impactful bodies of work. The Business Unit includes NASA’s Space Apps Hackathon and Collective to a Wellbeing Economy Building initiative anchored by Headstream to a Climate Economy Building initiative anchored by For Climate Tech. The NA BU also has a Consulting practice where we connect with new clients, explore new problems, build community and / or capacity as part of our work to build economies that are good for people and the planet. 

This dynamic team requires an Impact Measurement and Management (IMM) specialist in order to not just deliver on current offerings but drive impact through the Business Unit and the company. In addition, they will be in a position to contribute to the emerging consulting practice applying their research capabilities to this team supporting in the discovery and design research of programs. 

Core Responsibilities 

This role will support the North America Business Unit to build robust impact measurement capacity with the goal to measure, communicate and increase our positive impact in the world. Additionally, this role will sit within the Consulting team lending research skills and expertise to a variety of consulting projects.

 

DISCOVERY, DESIGN, STRATEGY CONSULTING

  • Support project management as needed for the Consulting group specifically as it relates to research, impact and strategy projects. This could involve managing or supporting delivery of one or more high value or complex projects at a time and will require tight coordination with the Senior Director of Consulting and broader team. 
  • Understand, adapt, refine and build capacity around SecondMuse methodologies around research, design and impact measurement. Effectively and efficiently adapt the methodology to client and team needs in line with desired impact.
  • Support and manage client and partner interactions specifically as it relates to research and impact work to create high, trust relationships that support opportunities to grow the work. 

IMPACT MEASUREMENT AND MANAGEMENT (IMM)

  • Strategic Alignment and Support
    • Deepen understanding of the North American program and consulting projects’ strategic direction through Impact Measurement and management (IMM) efforts.
    • Capable of distilling and conveying our impact narrative through insight generation and thought leadership in collaboration with our Business Development and Marketing and Communications efforts.
  • Impact Frameworks and Tools Development
    • Support the execution and refinement of Theory of Change (ToC)/Logic Models and Performance Measurement Frameworks (PMF) for all of the work under the North America Business Unit (~$10M and a dozen initiatives).
    • Develop and implement bespoke IMM frameworks tailored to each program, executed by Program and Operations teams that align with the broader company impact goals and strategies.
    • Design, refine and codify data collection tools, such as surveys and questionnaires suitable for capturing impactful data across various programs.
    • Assist in identifying relevant metrics at company, business unit and program level that reflect strategic goals
  • Data Management, Analysis, and Reporting
    • Work with the Director of Programs and/or the Director of Operations to lead the technical oversight of data collection.
    • Lead analysis efforts in North America to generate insights that drive strategic decisions and guide refinement and improvements within our approach. Working closely with NA BU Leadership to act on insights. Report out monthly to the BU more broadly.
    • Support reporting on impact, including case study development, ensuring reports are aligned with program goals, client needs, and external measurement standards. Work closely with the Studio (2M in house MarComm team) to deliver these communication assets.
    • Ensure robust data management practices using tools such as HubSpot and Google Sheets, providing accessible and accurate reporting on program impact outcomes

Work Environment

  • This role is virtual but you are hired in your present location for employment law purposes. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but your schedule must overlap with core work hours, and must be able to take and hold meetings across time zones. You should expect to work evening and morning hours 2+ times a week. Some travel might be required.
  • Close collaborators included: Director of Programs, Director of Operations and Culture, Global Head of Operations, Program leads, NA BU Leadership team
  • You will report to: Senior Manager, Consulting and Design

Requirements

Experience comes in many different forms. At SecondMuse we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds. As guidance, we prefer applicants to have at least 6 years of experience in a startup environment, design, innovation, or management consulting firm. At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.

  • Demonstrated experience in Impact Measurement and Management, particularly within program settings, including developing ToC, PMF, conducting research, and data analysis
  • Strong strategic thinking with an ability to connect IMM efforts with program goals and broader organizational strategy. And demonstrate a level of comfort  in working across issues, sectors, and  diverse project requirements
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging with program teams and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in project management, with a track record of coordinating and executing complex projects within set timeline
  • Familiarity with data management, data collection and reporting tools suited for program-based applications
  • A commitment to driving internal capacity building and external impact reporting
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative research and familiarity with quantitative research methodologies
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to service design and strategic thinking
  • Ability to manage multiple and distinct bodies of work and priorities simultaneously
  • Comfort with ambiguity and an evolving organization and practice
  • Cross cultural competency with the ability to flex between different content areas, time zones, project types and cultures both internally and externally
