CORE Learning (CORE) provides expert digital and in-person professional learning for pre-K-12 literacy and mathematics. Our evidence-based model supports the implementation of rigorous instruction for the language-diverse classroom based on scientific evidence in literacy, second-language acquisition, and mathematics. We work with and support educators and administrators at all grade levels, district personnel, and state departments of education to build system-wide capacity for sustained improvement that ends the predictability of student outcomes by race, language, and socioeconomic status.
Role Summary
CORE ELA Educational Consultants ensure equitable reading instruction for all students by addressing gaps in educator practice and providing high-quality support. We are hiring middle/high school consultants with experience in urban education who will be available for 24-80 hours per month. Assignments vary based on client needs, involving multiple 2-3 day trips or online sessions. This part-time, flexible role offers the opportunity to mentor teachers in evidence-based practices that boost student reading achievement.
Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Delivering professional development in reading and language arts, either on-site or remotely.
- Providing consultation on evidence-based ELA instruction, including demo lessons, classroom observations, coaching, MTSS support, and guidance for administrators and coaches.
- Facilitating workshops (in-person or remote) using CORE's presentation materials.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in reading, curriculum, or a related education field (specialist credential preferred for Grades 6–12)
- At least five (5) years of ELA teaching experience in the relevant grade band (Grades 6–12), with two (2) or more years as an ELA coach/consultant delivering professional learning to teachers and administrators across multiple schools
- Experience as a teacher or coach/consultant in urban education settings
The Strongest Candidates Will Have/Be:
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based reading/ELA instruction and research at the secondary level, including how to address gaps in the foundational skills of reading
- In-depth understanding of Common Core or other state ELA standards
- Preferred expertise in English language development, multilingual learners, and/or students with disabilities
- Experience in promoting equitable outcomes for underserved students and understanding the impact of institutional racism and bias
- Proven ability to deliver effective presentations, both in-person and virtually, with responsiveness, flexibility, and sound judgment
- Strong communication skills with diverse audiences
- Experience and comfort using remote platforms like Zoom for synchronous learning
- Preferred knowledge of reading core and intervention programs, ELA assessments (especially CBM), and diverse publisher materials
- Willingness to travel, including to remote locations
- Familiarity with Google Suite and internet resources is a plus

Compensation
CORE ELA Consultants are compensated on an hourly basis for each assignment, plus travel time.
