Responsibilities
- Accurately code all medical diagnoses and procedures using proper coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
- Review and analyze clinical documentation to ensure the accuracy and completeness of coded data.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures when necessary.
- Maintain coding compliance with federal, state, and payor regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of coded records to ensure adherence to best practices.
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations and guidelines to ensure quality of work.
- Assist in training and mentoring new staff on coding procedures and standards.
Requirements
- Certification as a Medical Coder (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Proven experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Familiarity with coding software and electronic health record systems.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
