Full Job Description

About the Opportunity

At Skyven Technologies, we have developed a revolutionary heat pump technology to decarbonize industrial heat.  We implement this technology through an innovative Energy-as-a-Service model that saves our customers money with no capital outlay.  We are hiring an Industrial Energy Project Developer as a key role on our growing Solutions Architecture team. This is an opportunity to make a real impact at an innovative and growing climate tech company.

Industrial heat is responsible for roughly 20% of global CO2 emissions. That’s roughly equivalent to emissions generated by all transportation (including land, sea, and air) and is a compelling business opportunity – it will take an estimated $3.7 trillion in capital investment to decarbonize the sector by 2050. Skyven is at the forefront of this transformation, and has recently been selected for a $145M investment from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate the deployment of our state-of-the-art Skyven Arcturus steam-generating heat pumps (SGHPs) at manufacturing facilities nationwide, revolutionizing how we address energy needs while combating climate change.

About the Role

We are seeking an Industrial Energy Project Developer to drive the technical sales, development, and deployment of Skyven’s Arcturus steam-generating heat pumps (SGHP). The role’s primary focus will be providing detailed technical and energy procurement support during the sales process and qualifying customers through high-level analysis, onsite data collection, project scoping, and engineering oversight of solution development.

To excel in the role, one will demonstrate competency in customer interactions, execute feasibility analyses for the Arcturus SGHP, and research and answer customer queries about specific energy markets. While deep experience in each area is not expected, the ability to learn, utilize available resources, and conduct market research to achieve objectives is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and negotiate utility rate structures in regulated and deregulated energy markets
  • Have a general understanding of energy markets to include trends, utility companies, and power grids.
  • Collaborate with sales and finance teams to assess and optimize energy costs using historical data, market research, and quantitative modeling.
  • Calculate fuel consumption, cost, and marginal cost for industrial plants and equipment
  • Quantify thermal energy sources and loads for accurate project assessment
  • Conduct the Arcturus Feasibility Study, focusing on:
    • determining electrical infrastructure requirements
    • analyzing heat source and steam demand variability
    • optimizing heat pump siting based on stakeholder needs and physical constraints, and
    • specifying heat exchanger size, performance, and cost
  • Analyze information from piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), utility bills, equipment specifications, control systems, and other plant data to understand customer processes
  • Weigh customer priorities, thermal energy balance, and project economics to determine the ideal project concept for each project
  • Proactively gather grant and incentive information and collaborate with vendors for project quotes
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met based on project economics
  • Implement best practices in customer and vendor management fostering strong relationships for business development
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, and project management teams to ensure successful project implementation
  • Be adept at guiding a customer to agree on the best technical solution when objections persist

Requirements

  • 4+ years engineering experience in the industrial manufacturing space
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of energy procurement for industrial sites or other related energy markets
  • Experience in client relationship management
  • Experience collaborating across sales, finance, and project management teams
  • Experience in pre-design and pre-construction of industrial manufacturing equipment and controls

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering
