ABOUT DECOLONIZING WEALTH PROJECT

Established in 2018, Decolonizing Wealth Project (DWP) is committed to bringing truth, healing and repair to the global community.  Reparative Philanthropy, our signature framework, is at the heart of our work.

Led by Edgar Villanueva, an award-winning author, and expert on wealth, spirituality and social justice, DWP operates through three key strategies: sector transformation, storytelling and culture, and reparative giving.  Our work has radically transformed the philanthropic sector and has facilitated the distribution of over $700 million for social justice efforts. Liberated Capital, DWP’s fund and donor community, has granted over $23 million to support economic solidarity, wellbeing, and earth and climate efforts primarily led by Black and Indigenous communities.

Headquartered in New York City, DWP's team is based across the United States. The NYC-based team operates in a hybrid model, and those outside the NYC metro area are fully remote. The team is an innovative, high-performing, collaborative group with career experience in philanthropy, nonprofit, corporate, law, finance, media, and education. We hold all-team in-person gatherings at least twice a year. These retreats combine strategy, connection, and education, often including experiences with grantee partners or Indigenous communities from the area.

DWP recently completed a bold strategic plan and is poised for greater impact as we expand into wealth advisory, tribal land return, youth mental health, and care as a form of repair. To support our growth, we expect to add several positions through 2025.
