Job Summary

Lazer is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Solutions Engineering to lead our Commerce Team and drive innovative, enterprise-grade e-commerce solutions on Shopify. In this role, you will oversee the Solutions Engineering function, providing strategic leadership in pitching, scoping, and solutioning for large enterprise brands. You will guide your team in crafting tailored Shopify solutions that address complex business needs, from platform migrations to feature implementations across the entire Shopify ecosystem (online, POS, etc.).

As the leader of one of the most talented Shopify-focused solutions engineering teams in the market, you will play a key role in shaping our technical strategy, ensuring delivery excellence, and fostering strong client relationships. Your technical expertise, strategic mindset, and leadership skills will empower your team to continuously grow and help clients realize their e-commerce vision.

Requirements

The Role

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Define and execute the vision and strategy for the Solutions Engineering function, aligning with organizational goals and client needs.
    • Mentor and lead a team of high-performing Solutions Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Establish best practices and processes for pre-sales, solutioning, and technical discovery to ensure consistent and scalable client success.
  • Client Engagement & Discovery:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with enterprise clients, acting as a trusted advisor in defining their e-commerce roadmap.
    • Oversee the execution of in-depth discovery sessions, both onsite and remotely, to assess technical and business requirements.
    • Provide high-level consultative guidance on migrations, implementations, and optimizations within the Shopify ecosystem.
  • Solution Design & Oversight:
    • Architect and approve scalable, enterprise-grade solutions that leverage the full Shopify stack, including Shopify Plus, Shopify POS, and third-party integrations.
    • Guide the development of migration and implementation strategies, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability, and alignment with client objectives.
    • Ensure solutions are translated into actionable plans and executed seamlessly by the delivery team.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Leadership:
    • Partner with Sales, Delivery, and Design teams to align client solutions with business strategies and technical capabilities.
    • Act as the technical escalation point for complex challenges, offering innovative solutions and maintaining project alignment.
    • Regularly review ongoing projects to ensure adherence to scope, quality standards, and client expectations.
  • Pre-Sales & Thought Leadership:
    • Support the sales team by contributing technical insights to pitches, RFPs, and proposals.
    • Oversee the creation of proof-of-concepts (POCs) and demo environments to showcase Shopify’s capabilities.
    • Represent Lazer at industry events, contributing to thought leadership and enhancing our reputation as a top Shopify partner.

Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive experience with Shopify Plus, including custom development, theming, app integrations, and API usage.
    • Deep understanding of Shopify’s architecture, ecosystem, and headless e-commerce implementations.
    • Strong technical foundation in web technologies, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Liquid, and GraphQL.
  • Leadership & Professional Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in e-commerce solutioning or implementation, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
    • Proven success in managing teams and overseeing the delivery of complex Shopify-based solutions for enterprise clients.
    • Experience working with digital agencies, consulting firms, or enterprise organizations.
  • Consultative & Strategic Skills:
    • Exceptional ability to engage with senior stakeholders and translate their business needs into technical solutions.
    • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence decisions at all organizational levels.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize and balance long-term vision with day-to-day execution.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Shopify certifications or equivalent training.
    • Familiarity with other e-commerce platforms (e.g., Magento, BigCommerce) and experience managing multi-store or global implementations.
    • Experience with ERP, OMS, and CMS integrations.
    • Willingness to travel for onsite client discovery and workshops as needed.
