Director – NERC Compliance
Location: Charlotte or Remote
Major Duties & Responsibilities
• Direct NERC compliance program's overall performance
• Develop and implement plans, schedules, procedures, internal controls, tools and processes required to establish and maintain a comprehensive NERC Reliability Compliance Program for use by Company-managed plants, with a particular focus on applicable NERC GO/GOP and TO Standards.
• Lead a team of NERC compliance program managers, coordinators, specialists, and technical experts to maintain compliance with NERC Compliance standards.
• Direct NERC compliance monitoring activities to include but not limited to audit, self-certification, and spot-check coordination, RSAW development, gathering/preparing compliance evidence and documentation, and self-report and mitigation plan development and response actions.
• Ensure staff have the resources and training they need to achieve their mission.
• Strong technical understanding of mandatory Reliability Standards, including best practices for program design and internal controls.
• Review standards under development to identify potential business impacts and offer comments during their development that support and benefit our fleet.
• Track modifications to Reliability Standards to ensure processes, procedures, internal controls, and training activities are completed in advance of the effective date for the modified/new standards.
• Prepare business plans, budgets and schedules for the NERC compliance program.
• Establish NERC Compliance program goals that support the overall goals of the company.
• Clearly communicate with all registered affiliates on NERC compliance expectations
• Assess, identify, and prioritize NERC compliance risks for mitigation.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with industry associations, regional entities and reliability agencies, and internal stakeholders to promote business goals and compliance with requirements.
• Identify, develop, and provide NERC awareness opportunities across the fleet.
Lead, plan, and coordinate high-quality internal compliance assessments.
• Prioritize and lead integration of business tools and applications to efficiently implement, effectively monitor, and develop documentation necessary to assure full NERC compliance.
• Develop meaningful NERC Compliance program KPI's and performance metrics.
• Support Sr. Director – Networks and Security to implement organization wide strategies, priorities, and documentation to meet reliability compliance requirements.
• Provide support to the Cogentrix security team in the implementation of the NERC‐CIP program as appropriate and necessary.
Requirements
Education/Experience Required
• At least 10 years of management experience, including at least five years in a management role over NERC Compliance Programs in a matrixed organization.
• Must have strong compliance program implementation skills to address all NERC program areas, with a particular focus on applicable GO/GOP and TO Standards
• Extensive knowledge of power generation design, operations and maintenance as it relates to NERC compliance requirements and expectations.
• Excellent work ethic with dedication to completing critical program requirements and meeting deadlines in a timely manner.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team to manage multiple priorities and see tasks through to completion without significant guidance.
• Ability to communicate exceptionally well both orally and in writing with regulators, executives, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Effective negotiation skills, and ability to be diplomatic and persuasive.
• Ability to evaluate the technical aspects of regulations and policies and discern their impact on company operations and compliance.
• Ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust and confidence among peers and management, building consensus and effective teams.
• Exceptional organization, planning and decision-making skills.
• Ability to critically review and ensure that results meet regulatory requirements and that all procedure documentation clearly communicates how those results were obtained.
• An initiative-taker that can tackle multidisciplinary challenges in coordination with various Cogentrix teams and third parties.
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and project management software a must
• Must have the ability to travel as required.
