This is a fully remote role for candidates who are based outside of the New York Metropolitan area. For those located in the area, we encourage you to consider our hybrid work arrangement (1-2 days a week in our NYC office). Energy storage is the key to unlocking a future where our world is powered by renewable resources. At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.


This Director of Market Development role is focused on identifying relevant new market opportunities for Convergent Energy and Power (“Convergent). They will recommend strategies to capitalize on relevant market changes – fundamentals, market design, regulation, policy, etc – then support the initial delivery of that strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and recommend new market opportunities as they become available. Present those recommendations to the Executive Committee and other senior leaders.  
  • Ensure tactical go/no-go gating and alignment on pursuing specific opportunities via land acquisition, RFP responses, sales & marketing campaigns, etc. 
  • Maintain foundational knowledge and awareness of the regulatory and market landscape. 
  • When appropriate, lead initial entry activities into nascent but high-potential markets.  
  • Coordinate related activities across various internal teams – such as Sales, Analytics, and Development teams - to ensure that company resources are focused on the highest potential opportunities.  
  • Collaborate with the Regulatory team on regulatory developments/opportunities, as well as provide guidance to the regulatory team on which areas have the highest economic potential for Convergent.   

Requirements

Required Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience in the energy industry.  
  • Ability to structure complex ideas and inputs into clear, actionable recommendations. 
  • Strong communication skills, especially verbal presentation, and written prose. 
  • Experience working in complex organizations and influencing decision-making without reporting-line authority.  
  • Take ownership – thrive working in complex organizations and influencing decision-making. 
  • Strong communicator – adept at structuring complex ideas and inputs into clear and actionable recommendations. 
  • Results driven with a bias towards action. 
  • Collaborative – adept at working across multiple teams and stakeholders to gather and integrate information. 
  • Detail-oriented – are meticulous about the details. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 5+ years of experience in energy market development, regulatory affairs, or neighboring functions, ideally focused on asset development or clean energy.  
  • Deep understanding of, and relationships with, clean energy space, relevant regulatory players, and market movers. 
  • Specific exposure to solar development.

Base Salary Range: $140,000- $155,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
