Full Job Description

Cure HHT is seeking a dedicated Development Associate to play a pivotal role in advancing our mission, vision, and priority goals through effective fundraising programs and processes. This part-time position (20-25 hours per week) requires a dynamic individual with excellent communication and organizational skills, who can work remotely from a suitable home office and travel to Maryland periodically for meetings with staff and attendance at annual conferences. Successful candidate will interact with Cure HHT staff, board members, consultants, as well as representative patients and patient families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage volunteer support for major gift and fundraising programs – must possess the ability to motivate and support volunteer major gift solicitors and manage 10-person International Fundraising Task Force cultivating and soliciting prospects $10K-$100K level.
  • Proposal research and writing with a focus on individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Donor communications, verbal and written, with primary focus on donor impact reports and donor cultivation meetings.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a small development team that produces big results; flexibility is key to success.
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising activities, including database management.

Additional responsibilities include:

Onboard

Participate in onboard sessions and take personal initiative to learn the science of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) at a layperson’s level, as well as current business and fundraising plans and systems to operate Cure HHT.

Plan

Work with the full Cure HHT team to build, expand, and improve upon existing appeals and public relations platforms to increase awareness of Cure HHT’s work and opportunities to save lives. Such plans should reach all stakeholders and constituents, including but not limited to patients, families, researchers & scientists, medical professionals, Centers of Excellence, donors, and anyone poised to advance the Cure HHT mission.

Donor Research

  1. Assist the campaign consulting firm NPL in conducting research on current and prospective donors (individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations) with an end goal to acquire major gifts ($10K and higher) from new donors, and to renew and upgrade gifts from current donors
  2. Continuously update contact information on both new and existing donors
  3. With direction from fundraising consultant, reach out personally to leaders in targeted networks and with current donors and others to assist in identification and development of new donors

Foundation and Government Relations

  1. Determine the best Foundation partners and design all processes to help close commitments from preparation of Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) to formal proposals and ongoing personal interactions with foundation leaders and their board members
  2. Prepare any relevant materials for foundation proposals and or government grants
  3. Track results from proposals and grants received and send grantors regular impact reports and communication to keep them engaged and supportive

MAJOR GIFT/CAMPAIGN SUPPORT

Donor Cultivation and Solicitation

  1. Work collaboratively with fundraising consultant (NPL), Executive Director, and board members to assist with cultivation of donors and prospective donors in a manner which is highly personal and relevant to each donor
  2. Help schedule donor calls and visits with the Called to Cure solicitation team
  3. Write correspondence to donors as needed between interactions with the team
  4. Manage a system for completion of donor contact reports into Sales Force
  5. Prepare personal proposals for specific asks to individual donors at the $10K gift level and higher with guidance from NPL

Tracking, Reporting and Database Management - Help maintain the donor database and all records

Donor Stewardship - Assist the full Cure HHT team and NPL in designing and implementing creative ways to keep donors informed of the results and impact of their giving through personal touch points

Planned Giving

Assist the Executive Director, NPL and core team to implement a planned giving program including:

  1. Design a brochure for constituents describing the most relevant planned gift options
  2. Arrange a relationship with a financial institution to manage Charitable Gift Annuities
  3. Inform donors about planned giving vehicles

Fundraising/visibility Events

  1. Assist the full team with the design, relevance, management, and implementation of all special events, small and large to build awareness and or raise money for Cure HHT
  2. Ensure that such events properly engage and recognize all donors and Cure HHT stakeholders and advance relationships with each other in addition to the organization’s leadership

 Relationship with Cure HHT Families and Related Constituents

  1. Help support processes to reach Cure HHT Families and constituents
  2. Provide Cure HHT families with practical and creative way for them to utilize such platforms with their personal networks
  3. Utilize and suggest tools to assist with the above
  4. Liaise with other stakeholders, such as extended family members-- and friends/colleagues of Cure HHT family members etc. to instigate new and creative ways for them to direct funds toward Cure HHT

Participation in Meetings

  1. Interact regularly online with the Campaign Leadership Team
  2. Meet with Cure HHT staff and NPL as needed

Ongoing Education

  1. Attend any relevant training and or coaching sessions at the request of the Executive Director
  2. Participate in research conferences at the request of the Executive Director
  3. Take initiative to interact with any organizational consultants in fundraising and or public relations

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years non-profit experience in development, fundraising, or donor relations required (Note: Development experience includes direct responsibility for any and/or all of the following tasks: donor research, grant/proposal writing, event management, cultivation & solicitation of major gifts, management of social media efforts seeking funds)
  • Proven track record for cultivating and advancing relationships with existing donors; involvement in face-to-face donor solicitation calls
  • Demonstrated success initiating “first approach” calls to new foundations, corporations, and/or individual donors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in virtual communication tools and technology for remote work
  • Persuasive written and oral communication skills
  • Effective research and analytical skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software
  • Knowledge of Salesforce (or similar CRM platform) preferred
  • Reside in the United States and ability to travel to Maryland quarterly and attend annual conferences (travel expenses covered)

Adaptability: Flexibility to navigate diverse responsibilities, including remote work, and engagement with patients and donors while consistently meeting deadlines.

Team Collaboration: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization, yet able to work independently (virtually) without supervision.

Benefits

This is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week) which allows for a flexible work schedule during normal business hours, with some work during evenings and weekends as needed. Part-time employees are eligible to participate in the 403(b) plan once the eligibility requirements are met.
