Full Job Description

The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation (Foundation) is a foundation created to enhance and expand the ability of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology (Alliance) to conduct cancer clinical research and address important treatment questions through large-scale clinical trials. Through efforts of the Foundation in support of the Alliance, clinical trials and laboratory research are conducted to discover new or improved ways to prevent, treat, and cure many types of cancer, including leukemia and lymphoma, and cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, and gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and help educate the medical community on methods of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

In May 2014, the Foundation created the Alliance Foundation Trials, LLC (AFT), respectively, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Foundation. AFT was also created to conduct cancer clinical research and address medical care and treatment through large-scale clinical trials involving various industry-related partners.

The Alliance Foundation Trials (AFT) is looking for a Contract Manager who will be responsible for preparing, examining, analyzing, negotiating, and revising contracts. Additionally, this role will liaise with our executive team, study teams, outside counsel, and many other external collaborators. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and negotiate contracts for clinical trial-related services including confidentiality agreements (CDAs/NDAs), grant and award agreements, clinical site or service agreements, assignments, terminations, amendments, and statements of work, executive officer or other salary support, licenses, and NCI-related agreements for assigned projects
  • Appropriately use contract templates and draft amendments, agreements, assignments, etc where appropriate
  • Must have a conceptual understanding and effective application of legal and business concepts vital to contract negotiation, including but not limited to confidentiality, indemnity/liability, human subject protection, intellectual property, liability etc.
  • Ensure appropriate internal buy-in and approval of relationship and risk terms
  • Comfort in questioning rationale and implementing informed decision-making tactics
  • Ability to review issues and escalate as necessary to the proper individuals and departments in a timely fashion
  • Accurate, concise, and timely communications with all relevant stakeholders, including contracts colleagues and the Director
  • Retention of stakeholder and department feedback or policy changes that impact assigned contracts
  • Develop as an SME for certain assigned contractual issues/questions that may arise internally
  • Establish a strong working relationship with colleagues in Contracts,  Pharmaceutical Collaborations, Project and Program Management, and Finance teams, as applicable, to ensure that the legal aspects of the assigned contract accurately reflect the overarching goals of the study and objectives of the organization
  • Maintain Egnyte and contracts folders/server for assigned projects and associated trackers and deliverables
  • Administrative work regarding contract execution, deliverables, maintenance, updates, and filing as appropriate
  • Review and update appropriate agreement templates and tracking methods when assigned
  • Continue training and development annually, and stay apprised of relevant contracting and regulatory issues as appropriate

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree required, paralegal certificate, JD or advanced degree preferred but not required, interchangeable with prior experience
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and amending contracts, or equivalent combination of education and experience. If less than 2 years of contracting experience, demonstrated interest and/or experience in healthcare and/or hospital or research contracting preferred
  • Preferred in-depth understanding of the clinical trial process and all legal/business concepts involved in creating and building clinical relationships
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects effectively
  • Strong communication skills and experience communicating relevant contract issues to superiors efficiently and concisely
  • Experience working both independently and within a team  
  • Experience working effectively with minimal supervision a plus
  • Proficiency with Office and document management
