About Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at ClimateWorks

The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) team leads an ambitious, proactive, cross-cutting practice of integrating JEDI into the foundation’s culture, policies, programs, and services. In accordance with ClimateWorks’ JEDI Principles and Values, the JEDI team engages with all levels within the organization and with external partners to advance JEDI. We engage in active learning, cross-functional collaboration, strategy development, and relationship building to ensure just and equitable outcomes for ClimateWorks staff and communities most impacted by climate disasters. We strive for equitable practices with implementing partners and grantees and in how we design our internal and external collaborative engagements.

To realize these commitments, the Associate Director, JEDI will support the organization by leading ambitious and proactive efforts to integrate justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging into the foundation's practices, programs, and services. Additionally, in close collaboration with the JEDI Team, the associate director, JEDI, will engage in initiatives that promote JEDI across the ClimateWorks network and climate philanthropy landscape. This position reports to the Chief of Equity, Justice, and Culture and functions on a collaborative team that models ClimateWorks’ JEDI Principles and Values.

 

Job Summary

The Associate Director, JEDI oversees the implementation of key JEDI-related projects and ClimateWorks’ JEDI Strategy with the support of the ClimateWorks Chief of Equity, Justice, and Culture. The central focus of this position is to oversee all operations for the emerging JEDI strategy, including managing the initiative's internal synergies across departments and teams, providing cross-regional coordination, and fostering increased engagement with external partners. The position requires operations, collaboration, and communication skills with a commitment to strong process management. The Associate Director will be responsible for building a strong culture of collaboration, communication, transparency, trust, encouragement, and learning among multiple internal and external partners. This position also supports the team in preparing materials, including reports and presentations for meetings with internal and external partners.

 

Essential Tasks 

The Associate Director, JEDI, will:

●      Collaboratively design processes and organization-wide learnings that promote a deep sense of belonging among ClimateWorks staff and align with ClimateWorks’ JEDI principles and values;

●      Design pathways for supporting ClimateWorks teams and departments to meet JEDI goals and develop associated metrics to track the impact of support;

●      Act as a trusted thought partner and coach for ClimateWorks’ staff on JEDI issues, ensuring leaders model ClimateWorks’ commitments to equity;

●      Oversee the production of JEDI communications materials for internal and external audiences;

●      Collaborate with internal and external partners on develop and track grantmaking trends in the climate justice space;

●      Liaise with funder-facing partners to develop learning opportunities and other collaborations;

●      Design and facilitate convenings focused on ClimateWorks’ JEDI efforts 

 

 

Partnerships

●      Develop and maintain strategic partnerships. This includes but is not limited to partnerships that center:

○      Developing non-extractive learning pathways with new organizations

○      Developing relationships with organizations in the global south that focus on climate equity and climate justice

○      Model trust-based and anti-oppressive practices for engagement with new partners

●      Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars with climate justice, environmental justice, and philanthropic leaders to deepen the JEDI Team’s community-informed approach to achieving its goal

Grantmaking

●      Co-develop and implement a pathway for monitoring grants from the JEDI Pilot Fund Learning;

●      Collaborate across ClimateWorks departments to measure the success of the JEDI Pilot Fund with specific attention paid to the decision-making body, the application process, fund disbursement, grantee engagement before, during and after the grant lifecycle, and impact of trust-based approaches; document learnings and disseminate;

●      Collaboratively design processes for new grantmaking funds;

●      Support narrative development, including impact metrics and narratives, trust-based granting process evaluation and narrative, staff engagement, and narrative shift in the climate philanthropy landscape

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:

●        Skilled in diplomacy and relationship building.

●        Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects at once

●        Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a dynamic work environment.

●        Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

●        A global outlook and the sensibility to empathize with and adjust to different cultures.

 

Skills and Qualifications

●      8+ years of relevant experience

●      Direct experience with or an understanding of how to apply justice and equity approaches internationally and to different country contexts.

●      Demonstrable experience in leading, developing, or coordinating across multiple functions

●      Ability to think strategically in seizing opportunities, with experience assessing risk and streamlining processes and procedures.

●      Experience working in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) environment

●      Demonstrated comfort in effectively communicating with invested parties in verbal and written form

●      Commitment to the mission and values of ClimateWorks Foundation

 

Preferred Qualifications 

While not required, applicants with the following qualifications are welcome:

●        Experience with philanthropic and non-profit organizations and management.

●        Experience with meeting design and facilitation techniques to maximize engagement and actionable outcomes.

Compensation

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential applied based on location).

Salary Range (Bay Area / NYC): $130,000 - $140,000 annually

Salary Range (Other US): $125,000 to $130,000 annually

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco with a team that includes staff who work remotely across the globe. We are open to candidates based in global locations that are advantageous to advance the work of this position and that enable time zone overlap with our east and west Coast colleagues and partners in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.
