Full Job Description
The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily logistics operations, ensuring efficient movement of goods and materials through strategic planning, carrier management, and compliance with safety regulations. This role involves recruiting, training, and developing a high-performing team while driving business growth by expanding the customer base and optimizing freight operations. The Branch Manager negotiates contracts, monitors shipments, and resolves logistics challenges to ensure timely deliveries and cost efficiency. Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and financial acumen are essential, as the role includes full P&L responsibility, sales strategy execution, and customer relationship management.
Requirements
Duties / Responsibilities:
· Plan and coordinate the movement of goods and materials, including scheduling and routing shipments.
· Recruit, train and develop current and future team members.
· Carrier utilization and management of extensive carrier base.
· Safety and regulations, compliance understanding.
· Ability to grow and develop a sales structure and customer base from scratch, utilizing tools such as LinkedIn, ZoomInfo and Google.
· Negotiate contracts with carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers to secure favorable rates and service agreements.
· Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery and provide updates to stakeholders.
· Address and resolve issues related to damaged or delayed shipments, as well as other logistics challenges.
· Optimize freight operations to minimize costs and improve efficiency.
· Supervise and manage a team of logistics and transportation professionals.
· Stay informed about changes in shipping regulations and compliance requirements.
· Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, carriers, and suppliers.
· Manage inventory levels to ensure availability and minimize overstock or shortages.
· Use transportation management systems and software to streamline logistics operations.
Skills / Requirements / Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field; a master's degree can be advantageous for senior positions.
· Logistics: Extensive experience in freight management, logistics, or transportation.
· Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills for securing favorable shipping contracts.
· Management Software: Proficiency in transportation management software and systems, including but not limited to McLeod TMS.
· Leadership: Excellent communication and leadership skills for managing teams and collaborating with external partners.
· Problem-Solving: Analytical and problem-solving abilities for optimizing freight operations and addressing challenges.
· Compliance: Knowledge of shipping regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
· Multitasking: Attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced logistics environment.
· Transportation: Familiarity with various modes of transportation, including trucking, shipping, and air cargo.
· Sales: Able to conduct and generate strategic selling plans. Be customer facing and conduct oneself to customers of all levels.
· Financial: Full P&L Responsibility, including but not limited to, growth plans, deficit reductions and overall profitability measurements.
