Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst©, The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments, developing behavior support plans, and implementing interventions to address challenging behaviors in individuals Age 21+ with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct behavioral assessments to identify challenging behaviors and determine root causes.
    • Develop structured behavior intervention plans tailored to the individual's needs.
    • Implement behavior plans and provide direct support as needed.
    • Train caregivers and staff on implementing behavior support strategies and intervention techniques.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior plans, making adjustments as necessary.
    • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of assessments, progress, and interventions.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align behavioral strategies with the Individualized Service Plan (ISP).

Behavioral Specialist Core Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments
  • Develop individualized behavior intervention plans
  • Implement behavior modification techniques and strategies
  • Collect and analyze behavioral data for continuous improvement
  • Provide training and support for staff and parents
  • Monitor and document progress and adjust plans as necessary
  • Advocate for the needs of individuals with behavioral challenges
  • Facilitate social skills training and other group interventions
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Stay current with research and best practices in behavioral science
  • Provides training and support to direct support providers and family members to ensure that the individuals served receive the best possible care.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical documentation practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Public Health Counseling, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of supervised experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in positive behavior support or applied behavior analysis (ABA).
  • Must work under the supervision of a BCBA or BCBA-D.
  • Behavioral Specialist Qualifications & Skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively in team settings
    • Advanced data collection and analysis skills
    • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records
    • Proficiency in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans
    • Experience in behavior management tools such as THERAP
    • Strong observational and analytical skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Commitment to ethical practice and professional development
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certified
        • Understanding and commitment to community-based supports for persons with disabilities
        • Experience with adult DDD population and familiarity with DDD regulations is preferred.
        • Experience in implementing behavior modification techniques and developing behavior modification strategies is preferred.
        • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills.
        • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
        • Strong knowledge of data collection, analysis, and interpretation for behavioral interventions.
        • Familiarity with behavior assessment tools and techniques.
        • Flexibility and adaptability in working with individuals with complex behavioral needs.
        • Valid driver's license
          • At least one year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities & supervised exp. involving behavior assessment & development of BSP's
            • Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines
