Position Summary:

The Director of Fleet Operations will be responsible for leading and optimizing fleet management for heavy-duty construction equipment used in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, cost control, and operational efficiency while implementing best practices for preventative and predictive maintenance.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in heavy equipment maintenance, fleet operations leadership, and process improvement. This role will drive cultural change from reactive to proactive maintenance, implement Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems, and ensure compliance with industry safety and regulatory standards. The Director will also have high visibility with executive leadership, requiring strong communication and reporting skills.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Operations & Maintenance Leadership

  • Oversee the fleet of heavy construction equipment, ensuring optimal performance, uptime, and utilization.
  • Implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Develop and manage KPIs for fleet efficiency, cost reduction, and reliability.
  • Lead the transition from a reactive maintenance model to a proactive strategy.
  • Optimize parts inventory management and procurement processes.

Heavy Equipment & Technical Expertise

  • Ensure fleet readiness for high-stress, daily-use environments in energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Manage hydraulic, diesel powertrain, mechanical, and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
  • Provide oversight for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on-site and at the main facility.
  • Ensure proper GPS and laser-guided technology integration into fleet operations.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing fleet operations team, including onsite and remote mechanics.
  • Drive training programs to enhance expertise in hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Foster a collaborative culture between field teams and maintenance operations.

Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) & Compliance

  • Implement and manage an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to track maintenance history, parts inventory, and costs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with safety standards, state, and federal fleet regulations.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fleet operations.

Executive Communication & Reporting

  • Regularly report fleet performance, KPIs, and cost metrics to the VP of Supply Chain and executive leadership.
  • Prepare data-driven recommendations for fleet expansion, maintenance improvements, and cost efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and project management teams to align fleet strategy with business goals.

Work Location & Travel Requirements:

  • Location: Las Vegas, NV (Onsite).
  • Priority given to Las Vegas-based candidates. If no strong local candidates, relocation assistance may be available (sign-on bonus, not full relocation package).
  • Travel Requirement: ~10% to job sites as needed.
