Full Job Description
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of this role is in transitioning product(s) from Composite Engineering group to implementation and ongoing manufacturing within our manufacturing facility. This involves working closely with R&D department to understand the detailed processes of working with composites, helping to define / develop manufacturing processes, and helping to ensure the safety of others and the product throughout the process.
Position Responsibilities:
- Abides by all safety policies. Maintains awareness of and follows all safety rules, including use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, aprons, respirators, machine guards, etc.
- Works on the composites manufacturing implementation efforts starting at the River Road facility and eventually transitioning to the Westgate Manufacturing Facility.
- Able to think ‘out-of-the-box’ to make suggestions to improve both product and processes.
- Able to understand and follow detailed processes.
- Uses raw materials and pre-fabricated parts to perform complex fabrication and assembly of floats and other aircraft parts and verifies conformity within industry and Company standards.
- Follows, understands, and suggests revisions to specification, drawings, and/or sample parts to ensure compliance to composite manufacturing requirements.
- Recommend revisions, as needed, to the manufacturing to aid in improving conformance to design intent.
- Measures and shears/cuts raw material to match specifications or sample parts, following instructions.
- Operates equipment and utilizes common hand tools needed to manufacture and assemble parts.
- Inspects all parts and assemblies for product conformity to design standards.
- Documents and requests QC / Composites Engineering for corrective action.
- Make design or process change recommendations for error proofing.
- Follows, understands, and suggests revisions to specification, drawings, and/or sample parts to ensure compliance to composite manufacturing requirements.
- Advises management of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
- Documents all requested information as required through systems.
- Notifies and tracks any build or quality issues and their ultimate resolution.
- Keeps work area clean and well organized.
- Trains and mentors the composites manufacturing staff on procedures and processes to develop and improve skills.
- Works with composites R&D to develop and improve employee training program as future staff is added.
Requirements
Experience and Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years’ minimum related experience in composites assembly and fabrication strongly preferred.
- Enthusiastic about learning new processes and training others.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in working with hand tools, composite, and sheet metal shop tools and performing common shop tasks.
- Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Use close vision to see small parts & review detailed information, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Valid driver’s license to drive between locations.
