Food Program Assistant, 25 hours per week

Job Purpose

The Program Assistant will support the Food Programs Manager in the day-to-day operations of NKC food programming. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented food lover to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our Farm Stand is well-stocked, organized, and attractively displayed for shoppers. They will assist with the intake and organization of food donations and support all food distributions and seasonal programming.  This role involves physical tasks, including standing, lifting, moving stock, and maintaining a clean and efficient store and warehouse environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Keep Farm Stand stocked, cleaned, and updated daily.
• Support Farm Stand operation, including ordering products, maintaining POS system pricing and inventory, and coordinating with staff on product changes.
• Assist in sorting food donations that come into the building and keep food areas organized and clean including our licensed kitchen.
• Oversee routine cleaning, organization, and light maintenance checks of the warehouse, pantry, and farm stand walk-in coolers/freezers.
• Assist with the Kent County Community Action program: Quarterly TEFAP and monthly CSFP distribution.
• Assist with the execution of weekly and monthly Meals on Wheels programming.
• Provide support and operational direction for pantry volunteers.
• Support maintenance of the NKC Community Garden beds.
• Support client-focused seasonal programming and food drives.
• Make food pickups from local farmers, restaurants, and grocers as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Fluency in Spanish preferred.

• Ability to stand for long periods of, lift up to 40 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Have valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing.
• ServSafe certification (training provided).
• Self-starter with a high degree of initiative, professionalism, and excellent organizational skills. 
• Demonstration of and ongoing commitment to cultural competency.

• Forward-thinking with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others. 
• Have a good understanding of issues related to individuals and families that face socioeconomic challenges.
• Competency in Microsoft Office programs and basic computer use.
