Full Job Description
Position Description: The Occupational Therapist provides services that helps restore function. Using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment, occupational therapists provide therapeutic interventions to prevent dysfunction, restore function and/or reverse the progression of pathology of the upper limb in order to enhance an individual’s ability to execute tasks and to participate fully in life situations. The Occupational Therapist provides an assessment of evaluation, develops short and long term plans, and measures patient progress.
Requirements
Plans and administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability.
· Reviews and evaluates patients’ conditions and medical records.
· Provides assessment of evaluation.
· Promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
· Fabricates splints as prescribed by referring physician.
· Develops short and long term treatment plans and measures patient progress.
· Plans and prepares treatment programs based on evaluation of patient data.
· Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatment to achieve maximum benefit.
· Records treatment, response and progress in the patient’s chart and records it in the Electronic Health Record.
· Writes and updates monthly progress notes; maintains all patient chart notes.
· Educates patients on home exercise programs and the use of assistive devices.
· Provides discharge planning for patient.
· Acts as a liaison between patients and doctors.
· Supervises all activities in directing patient care and proper utilization of support personnel.
· Evaluates treatment with other team members.
· Reviews the physician’s referral and patient’s condition and medical records to determine occupational therapy treatment required.
· Orients, instructs and directs the work activities of Occupational Therapist Assistants and Occupational Therapy Aides.
· Completes required orientation as directed by the Company; attends meetings and seminars as required.
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
· Adheres to HIPAA, OSHA and all other applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
· Behaves in a manner consistent with Professional’s mission, vision and values.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid Occupational Therapist License (for the state you practice in).
· Master or Bachelors degree of Occupational Therapy required.
· Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive collaborative relationships across all levels.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Must be able to communicate well with patients, co-workers and the general public.
· Must be punctual and dependable.
