Full Job Description
The Indian Creek School Technical Theater Director contributes to our vibrant learning community for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position, paid via a per-show stipend, would report to the Director of Performing Arts.
This part-time position includes the following responsibilities:
- Together with the play and musical directors, designing and building sets on stage for each production. This will also require the supervision of adult volunteers and high school student volunteers.
- Supervising robust student-led technical theatre crews during performance runs.
- Managing and caring for equipment and maintaining systems and theatrical elements of the Jack and Nancy Becker Center for the Performing Arts and scene shop for The Performing Arts department during performance rehearsal processes and show runs.
- Train, guide, and mentor students in a range of technical theater elements, including set design and construction, props, sound and lights and stage management.
- Collaborate effectively and positively with others to further advance department goals and initiatives.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with the Upper and Middle School Theatre Directors and Camp Show Directors, relevant arts department members, facilities coordinator, and school leaders to support the production team, student, and departmental success, as well as ensure that technical resources are available and operational for community events.
- Be available for weekend work sessions until mid-evening during tech weeks and for performances under the tech director’s supervision and work with our outside light and sound consultant. Be available on weekday afternoons to build sets during the summer for three productions.
- Enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning to develop student agency and independence.
- Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented approach to teamwork and collaboration.
- Attend Production Meetings
- Communicate effectively with show directors, parents, colleagues, school counselors and administrators regarding student behavior and progress, as appropriate.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Required/ Master's Preferred in Theatre Arts or a related field, with a focus on scenic/set design and construction skills.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience with high school students in a theatre or related arts program.
- Flexibility: Ability to work some nights and weekends, as needed.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with construction materials and tools that would be used in set building. Proficiency with typical technical hardware such as the ETC family of lighting boards and Allen & Heath soundboards. Additional proficiency in the Microsoft Suite and other relevant productivity and media software (eg Qlab) is preferred.
- Professional Experience: Previous professional experience in the theatre field, such as directing, acting, or design, is a plus.
- Must pass Federal and State background check along with MSDE Employment History Review.
