Full Job Description

Des Moines Eye Surgeons is looking for a high energy individual that has a passion for creating an amazing patient experience. We are looking for someone who wants to be the first point of contact for our patients and who will set the tone in providing an exceptional experience for our patients!

A Front Desk Specialist is trained to act as the first point of contact for our patients where they set the tone for their visit through excellent patient care. The Front Desk Specialist will also perform the necessary administrative responsibilities needed to create a smooth check-in/out experience for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone). Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Answer phones; assure prompt, courteous service at all times while making appointments and taking messages
  • Verifying and registering patient information. Attention to detail is a core requirement of this position.
  • Check out patients and collect correct payments
  • Verify and perform insurance authorization prior to patient visits
  • Preparing or scanning medical records
  • Must be able to prioritize duties to complete daily work and to demonstrate flexibility in meeting the demands of daily challenges.

Human Skills

Interacts professionally with coworkers and patients. Must have the ability to diffuse angry or difficult people in person or by phone. Excellent oral communication skills demonstrating a good command of the English language. Must be able to work as a team player to be prepared for the next day’s patient load.

Physical Skills

Must be able to use a computer terminal, telephone, and other office tools such as a fax, copy, and postage machines. Must be able to read printed and written material. Must be able to speak clearly with the appropriate volumes and tones for a medical office. Must be able to stoop and reach for filing purposes.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience working directly with the public in a customer service oriented venue.
