Full Job Description

Position Overview:

Accurately and timely process all water utility customer payments and process payments for collection on delinquent accounts.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately record and process all customer payments.  Input into Tyler billing software; send deposits to bank via remote deposit capture.
  • Daily reconcile customer credit card payments from prior day.
  • Accurately record and process weekly auto-draft/recurring credit card payments.
  • Post any deposit items returned, checks, and auto-drafts.
  • Process payments for collection on delinquent accounts. 
  • Process late fees and send notice of delinquency correspondence via US mail.
  • Process lockouts for delinquent accounts and prepare work orders for the field.
  • Communicate with Billing Manager regarding questions, issues, concerns on accounts, etc.
  • Daily retrieve and sort mail from post office.  Distribute miscellaneous mail to appropriate parties/departments.
  • Assist Accounting Department with other accounting-related duties, projects, and correspondence as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Some basic accounting knowledge necessary.  Must be hard working, dependable, and able to process large volumes of paperwork in an efficient manner. Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.  Strong sense of accuracy and attention to detail required.  Must be able to document, organize, input, and manage information/data efficiently and accurately. Strong data entry skills a must, as well as knowledge of computer programs and software (Microsoft Suite) including advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.  This position uses Tyler ERP Pro 10 billing software and M-Files data management software, as well as bank websites for deposits and auto-drafts.  Ability to type 40 WPM necessary. 

  • Associates degree with a concentration in accounting or 2-3 years accounts receivable/accounts payable experience and experience working in the water utility industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Experience working in utilities and familiarity using Tyler ERP Pro software will be a plus.
