Systems Engineer - Cloud Security

We have an opening for a full-time, permanent Systems Engineer to join our talented, dynamic team in support of a large Federal Government customer.   

The Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in our team's success on a large Federal Government SOC contract for the Department of Veteran's Affairs. The Systems Engineer will play a critical role in reviewing and enhancing the cloud security toolset configurations, ensuring robust tenant and network separation, and overseeing the management of privileged cloud accounts. This position involves detailed reviews of cloud logging practices and the development of VA cloud logging baselines in accordance with requirements defined in M-21-31.

Duties

In this role, a typical day will include: 

•  Conduct thorough reviews of cloud security toolset configurations, prioritizing external systems to ensure optimal tenant and network separation with access control within and between cloud environments and the VA WAN. 
• Perform detailed reviews of cloud privileged accounts, focusing on systems accounts as well as cloud administration accounts, to ensure compliance with security policies. 
• Evaluate current cloud logging practices against the requirements defined in M-21-31, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance. 
• Develop and implement VA cloud logging baselines that align with federal guidelines and best practices. 
• Collaborate with IT security teams to implement necessary changes and enhancements based on review findings. 
• Document all procedures and configurations to maintain a clear record of security measures and to facilitate audits and compliance checks. 
• Provide expert advice and guidance on cloud security best practices to other teams and stakeholders. 
• Stay updated with the latest developments in cloud security technologies and federal security regulations to ensure the VA remains compliant and secure. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related field
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AWS Security, Azure Security, or similar
• Extensive experience in systems engineering with a significant focus on cloud security, including direct experience with large enterprise cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and Microsoft 365
• Demonstrated expertise in cloud infrastructure, network security, and access management
• Deep understanding of federal IT security regulations and standards, including NIST, CISA, and DISA
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 
• Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills 
• Strong people skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team of peers
