Our Health Coordinator program takes a holistic approach to bolster the health and safety of the entire school community. Our goal is to save lives and prevent emergencies through highly skilled response training that builds trust, demonstrates respect, and empowers learners to apply life-saving techniques to any individual in need, under any circumstances.
Who You Are
We’re currently seeking a full-time certified EMT to oversee the health and safety of students in a school setting in the DC area over the summer. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience working with children, values community relations and outreach, and is committed to providing service with excellence. This is a temporary position from June 17th to August 2nd, but there is a possibility for it to become a permanent position.
Requirements
Essential Responsibilities:
• Tend to the injuries and illnesses of students on campus and determine if further medical care is needed
• Lead the school's COVID pandemic response including COVID testing, tracking results, contact tracing, county/state case reporting, vaccination promotion, and advising on health and safety policies
• Complete detailed student and employee incident reports
• Oversee the medical needs of students, safeguard medication supply for students that require medication on a regular basis, and administer student medication per physician orders
• Present on health-related topics and assist campus wellness practices with staff and students
• Maintain and monitor the school’s emergency information database for students including health records and immunization records, ensuring compliance and proper record-keeping
• Provide accurate and consistent communication with families regarding student medical, health, and wellness needs
• Participate as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Team, attend emergency preparedness coordination meeting as needed
• Serve as leader and first aid team member during an emergency
• Maintain emergency preparedness manual, classroom emergency backpacks, emergency and first aid supplies and food
• Work in conjunction with the school counselor to care for students with mental health first aid needs
Qualifications:
• Possession of a current EMT license and up-to-date CPR qualification
• Ability to communicate effectively in a school environment, both written and verbal
• Experience working with children with language-based learning differences preferred
• Strong computer skills; proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Collaborative, team player, confident in front of large groups and public speaking
Physical Requirements and ADA Compliance:
ADA law applies to all schools (public, private, charter, and independent). Each campus will have their own systems in place to meet those accommodation requirements. The way this is implemented on campus can vary, and Joffe does not have any input or preemptive knowledge of the facilities available to employees on each campus.
Work of this nature requires physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to sit, walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance. Hand-eye and motor coordination is necessary for the well-being of the patient, the First Responder and others over uneven terrain. Climbing and balancing are required for safe transport of the patient and equipment. Patients are often found injured or sick in locations where removal is possible only through the First Responder’s stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.Transporting lifesaving equipment, arm extension, handling carefully patients in fragile conditions, feeling to assess vital signs are part of the nature of this position. Responding to others through hearing is necessary in transmitting patient information and following directions. Sight is used to drive vehicles, distinguish landmarks and visually inspect patients. The work can involve light lifting (from 10 to 20 pounds maximum) to very heavy lifting (50 pounds frequently, no maximum) and can involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
