Title: National Field Organizer 

FLSA Classification: Exempt 

Salary Grade: F 

Job Location: Remote 

Reports to: Director of Strategic Advocacy 

The National Field Organizer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing strategies to introduce new people to FCNL’s advocacy, with a specific focus on strategically engaging new communities and key states and congressional districts. Success will be measured by growth in the numbers of new people FCNL engages around the country and our effectiveness in persuading these individuals to continue to participate in our advocacy. This position will also help build FCNL’s growing civic education work around the country. 

 

Essential Job Duties

Campus Chapters (40%) 

  • Identify and engage with students and faculty on campuses to explore opportunities for starting new advocacy chapters. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with campus communities, student organizations, and other stakeholders, and serve as a point of contact for students interested in advocacy.  
  • Collaborate with Friends Place, FCNL’s Quaker learning center and guest house on Capitol Hill, on high school chapters.  
  • Guide students through the process of creating and launching an advocacy chapter, including power mapping, organizing strategies, and leadership development. 
  •  Plan and facilitate regular virtual training sessions on advocacy skills, policy issues, and lobbying with leaders of all campus chapters. 
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to student leaders as they build their advocacy competencies and develop chapter activities. 
  • Track and assess chapter progress, providing feedback and guidance to ensure chapter sustainability and growth. 
  • Assist in the preparation and planning of key events, such as campus advocacy workshops, virtual lobby visits, and in-person participation in FCNL’s major fly-in lobby conferences. 
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy Teams staff to develop and maintain a system for campus chapter participants to start or join an Advocacy Team. 

Delegation Leaders (20%) 

  • Delegation Leaders support FCNL’s lobbying conferences by acting as a point of contact with key young adult stakeholders. This person will work with Delegation Leaders to manage recruitment, communication, structure and program goals, and overall performance.
  • Consult with the Young Adult Program Director on program recruitment and provide administrative support. 
  • Implement the communication strategy and manages the outreach to young adults around the country via university or community contacts through emails, blog posts, and other forms of communication.  
  • Organize and support follow-up actions after our annual lobbying conference event.  

Diaspora Engagement and Partnerships (40%) 

  • Provide regular support to advance the objectives of the initiative, including deepening relationships with diaspora advocacy organizations, supporting diaspora organizers to take regular actions in their communities, and organizing the Diaspora Organizer Gathering in Washington, DC. 
  • Support diaspora organizers in their communities by conducting listening sessions, offering advocacy trainings, and deepening relationships. 
  • Recruit 8-12 participants who identify as members of diaspora communities for a multi-day gathering focused on advocacy and community building. 
  • Support participants to take action throughout the year, including in district lobby visits, publishing in the media, and organizing community events. 
  • Collaborate with relevant teams across FCNL, including the Strategic Advocacy Team, Domestic Policy Team, and Foreign Policy Team, to develop and maintain relationships with diaspora organizers.

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 

Minimum Required Job Qualifications 

  • At least five years of experience in grassroots organizing, demonstrating a strong ability to engage new participants in democracy and advocacy, as well as organize in multicultural settings and on college campuses. 
  • Proven ability to organize or recruit people into advocacy.  
  • Experience in designing and leading training programs.
  • Experience in planning and executing events with strategic outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking to inspire and engage varied audiences. 
  • Ability to work independently and accomplish specific, measurable goals. 
  • Flexibility to work outside traditional hours, particularly in the evening, to accommodate calls with diaspora and campus chapters. 
  • Proficient in collaborating remotely with a team and providing timely, accurate reports and updates. 
  • An entrepreneurial self-starter, adept at building new structures and driving innovative initiatives.   
  • Alignment with FCNL’s policy positions and understanding of a faith-based perspective toward lobbying.   
  • Willingness to travel for in-person engagements and events. 

 

Preferred Job Qualifications 

  • Strong commitment to advocacy and social justice. 
  • Experience working with student advocacy groups. 
  • Experience with data analysis tools to assess and report on program effectiveness. 
  • Strong networking skills with the ability to build strategic partnerships across different communities. 
  • Experience working with diaspora communities 

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment 

  • This job requires frequent travel, including overnight travel within the US up to 40% of the time.  
  • This job requires frequent evening work to accommodate calls, meetings, or events. While most duties will take place during standard working hours, candidates should be prepared for flexibility in their schedule. We will provide advance notice for evening obligations wherever possible.  
  • Prolonged sitting or standing for long periods may be required. Accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals who require flexibility. 

  

Work Expectations 

  • The anticipated compensation range for candidates in DMV is $74,000 to $80,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate and placement within the pay grade will be dependent on the candidate’s specific background and qualifications and equilibrium with our internal equity. FCNL is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of the DMV.
  • This is a full-time exempt position, based on an average 37.5-hour workweek and includes some evenings. This position is remote; there may be times when the employee is required to come into the office for meetings or events. Annually this individual will need to be available for in-person support at Annual Meeting/QPPI conference during November and Spring Lobby Weekend conference held annually in March.
