Full Job Description
Neal R. Gross and Co. is looking for an outstanding executive to join our team. As a fractional VP Finance, your primary responsibility will be to provide finance strategy leadership for our growing small business. You will be a key executive owning risk management and compliance strategy as well. Working with our accounting team, you will lead our budgeting and FP&A efforts while participating in our executive strategy work alongside our business operations leaders. This is an exciting role with ample opportunity to make a significant impact across our growth, people, and operations.
Location: This is a fractional, or part-time, role. Remote and hybrid candidates will be considered. The Neal R. Gross & Co office is located in downtown Washington DC.
Role Scope and Responsibilities
- Contributes to strategic planning and develops action plans to achieve strategic objectives. Responsible for integrating the financial plans into the strategic plan and creating metrics to measure progress against goals.
- In conjunction with the executive leadership at NRG, participate in strategic planning and forecasting as well as completion of reports and budgets. Responsible for the integrity of all financial information and reports.
- Reviews reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual performance, budgeted expenses against final totals.
- Monitors all overhead expenses and reports extraordinary circumstances to the CEO.
- Prepares department work plan and monitors performance against this plan.
- Responsible for identifying problems and risks, including budget overruns for both the company and programs and recommends corrective actions.
- Perform FP&A activities, collaborating closely with Operations leaders to analyze unit economics, our business model, and the financial impacts of potential strategic decisions.
- Performs program and indirect cost reviews, rate validations, forecasting of labor and overhead rates. Monthly prepares reports for the CEO and VP’s showing spending vs. budget and identifying any problems that need to be addressed.
- Partner in RFP process for all contracting submissions, providing financial modeling for pricing strategy discussions consisting of the executive team.
- Maintains a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over cash flow activities.
- Oversees Invoicing function, ensuring invoices are accurate and delivered timely to clients. Manage Receivables.
- Handles compliance investigations and reporting on fraud, waste or abuse.
- Enhances and/or develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.
- Communicates to the CEO significant developments affecting the company’s goals, develops recommendations and takes appropriate actions.
- Provides strategic guidance to the company in order to maximize enterprise valuation for a variety of exit opportunities.
Requirements
- 8+ years progressive Finance/FP&A experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. MBA or CPA optional but helpful.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and reporting process.
- Experience leading, managing, and developing staff preferred.
- 3+ years experience on senior leadership team environments, familiarity with Board of Directors meetings preferred.
- Familiarity with and experience owning OKR/EOS goal tracking systems preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
- Ability to work with senior management in a cross-functional environment.
- Must possess sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and a strong operational focus.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work within and meet established deadlines.
