FOIA Specialist (Attorney)

As a FOIA Specialist (Attorney) at ARETUM, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program and ensuring compliance with FOIA regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and processing FOIA requests in accordance with agency policies and procedures
• Conducting legal research and analysis to identify responsive records
• Preparing legal responses to FOIA requests, including redacting sensitive information
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to gather and provide requested information
• Maintaining accurate records of FOIA requests and responses
• Keeping up-to-date with changes and updates to FOIA policies and procedures

Requirements

• Two years of prior FOIA experience as an Attorney; Ability to process FOIA requests from cradle-to-grave
• Experience reviewing large record sets and applying redactions to responsive records in accordance with the FOIA, USDA’s FOIA regulations, and any applicable case law
• Drafting legal correspondence
• Managing FOIA admin files in accordance with office SOPs
• Proficiency with USDA’s commonly used confidentiality statutes
• Preparing FOIA appeal packages for legal sufficiency review.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
• Admission to a State Bar
