Full Job Description

DuPont Clinic seeks a dynamic and compassionate Director of People and Culture. This position will lead our efforts in fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace. The role is pivotal in shaping our organizational culture, championing our values, and ensuring our team members feel empowered and engaged. Therefore, it requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of HR best practices and a passion for reproductive rights and healthcare equity. The Director of People and Culture will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

Who we are: The DuPont Clinic provides private, patient-centered abortion care for all trimesters of pregnancy. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment and offer a non-judgmental, compassionate, and supportive space for people to receive the highest level of medical care. We specialize in high-risk pregnancies and caring for people with complex medical situations who may have difficulty accessing care for any reason. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Cultivate and sustain a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven culture that aligns with the DuPont Clinic's values of empathy, excellence, evolution, and collaboration. 
  • Develop and implement hiring processes.
  • Supervise operational onboarding and offboarding support and develop programs to nurture and retain our skilled workforce. 
  • Work with supervisors to facilitate performance reviews that create opportunities for feedback and growth.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and advocate for staff, handling internal complaints, both formal and informal, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and ensuring a fair and equitable workplace.
  • Manage and continuously improve competitive compensation and benefits packages that attract and retain staff while aligning with the clinic's financial goals. 
  • Oversee payroll and manage the payroll vendor as needed.
  • Support staff and supervisors with questions relating to benefits enrollment, functions of benefits, and workplace policies and procedures as needed.  
  • Facilitate internal communications regarding benefit updates and changes. 
  • Create and operationalize policies and procedures regarding federal, state, and municipal compliance issues, including, but not limited to, ADA compliance, EEO regulations, employee leave, internal investigations, and other legal compliance issues.
  • Consult legal counsel when needed.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives with support and feedback from the Work Culture Committee to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. 
  • Create and implement programs to enhance employee engagement, morale, and well-being, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform decision-making, measure the effectiveness of HR programs, and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Strong commitment to reproductive rights, healthcare equity, and the mission and values of the DuPont Clinic  
  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources, Operations, People Operations, or office management
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting or working for an organization that provides direct service
  • Excellent active listening, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills
  • Experience effectively supporting the needs of employees providing direct care
  • Demonstrated expertise in hiring and recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, and HR compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of how to access and apply updated labor laws and best practices in Human Resources 
  • Strong project management, time management, and planning skills, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive projects forward independently
  • Excellent judgment around boundaries regarding privacy and confidentiality with regard to internal and external communications
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems and databases (BambooHR, Paylocity, Workable, Greenhouse) and how to apply the data gathered from these systems to policy and procedure 

Desired Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Human Resources or People Operations certification is a plus
  • Collaborative and justice-oriented approach to leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in rapidly changing situations
  • Experience working in reproductive health, rights, or justice preferred
  • Additional experience in finance is a plus
  • Familiarity with QuickBase is a plus

Benefits

Compensation and Work Environment

  • Position Type: Exempt, Full-time (40 hours per week), In-person position in Washington, DC
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000   
  • Benefits Include:

    • Accrued PTO starts at 12.5 days in the first year of employment, with an increase of 2.5 additional days every subsequent year for the first three years
