Digitization Technician

LAC Federal is seeking a Digitization Technician to support a project digitizing braille music score titles to 1) fulfill a goal of the Library’s digital strategy, 2) to ensure preservation of the scores, and 3) to better serve patrons. The Digitization Technician will use specially designed braille scanners (DotScan scanners) that function similarly to regular flatbed scanners as they create images with an overlying grid of the scanned dots, and then convert these images automatically into digital braille files. The Technician would learn to use the machine via on-site training by staff. The Technician will be responsible for retrieving designated scores from the stacks, scanning using the DotScan scanner, and saving the digital files according to guidelines. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of two (2) years of library experience
• Experience with digitization processes, operating scanners, and scanning paper of photo materials
• Experience with searching online catalogs and retrieving materials from library stacks
• Ability to carry and move items up to 44 lbs.
• Knowledge of digital file processing
• Ability to learning braille scanning procedures
• Ability to learn DotScan hardware and software
• Ability to learn Duxbury braille software
• Skill with Microsoft Office products
• Detail-oriented and careful
• Comfortable performing repetitive tasks
• Ability to follow guidelines
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Ability to communicate with colleagues and supervisor

• Ability to perform moderate lifting up to 44 lbs, as well as frequent standing, walking, pushing, stooping and stretching
