Full Job Description
Reports To: Associate Director of Digital Strategy and Community Engagement
Stipend/Pay: $16.00/hour x 15-20 hours a week over 5 months
Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time, Temporary Employee/Intern
Description:
Are you interested in communications and digital /social? Wonder how foundations and nonprofits communicate about the work they do?
Eager to get real substantive hands-on professional experience and contribute to comms for good? Want to do all this through a paid part-time internship with a small, hard-working (but fun!) team?
We’re looking for a paid intern (working remotely from the United States) to help us with digital engagement, administrative tasks, and a variety of other projects as they pop up, including helping out with our biggest project: our annual conference, ComNet, happening Oct. 16-18, 2024. We’re looking for someone who is available 15-20 hours a week and can commit to a 5 month internship, ideally from June to October.
The Communications Network is a nonprofit organization that connects, gathers, and informs more than 3,000 professionals from influential nonprofits and foundations around the world. We host events around the country and online, produce digital and print products, and find the latest communications tools and innovations to help folks doing good do their work better. You can learn more about what we do here.
Our small but mighty team works remotely from across the country. Our culture is warm, friendly, and business casual. Our team is flexible, stays on track with weekly check-in meetings, and we value candid feedback and open conversations. We’re a busy bunch and we need the help of a smart, enthusiastic, organized, go-getter.
What will you learn?
We’ll show you what it’s like to work in a small, resourceful not for profit organization, and you’ll gain exposure to how communication departments at global, national, and regional nonprofits and foundations work. You’ll be growing your organizational and time management skills, and using tools like Google Drive, Squarespace, Slack, and Canva (if you haven’t used them before, don’t worry, we will teach you).
You can expect a good amount of administrative tasks as well as some stretch assignments to grow your skills. We’ll be asking you about other experiences you want to gain during the internship and will do everything we can to make you quickly feel part of the team.
We want your experience to be valuable, stimulating, and fun. If you are looking to earn college credits for the internship, we are open to working with you on that, just let us know.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Create and edit graphics in Canva
- Populate web pages on Squarespace
- Develop daily social media content for LinkedIn and Instagram
- Assist Associate Director of Digital with planning content for events and conferences
- Assist Associate Director of Digital with populating the ComNet24 app
- Attend team check-in meetings and provide status updates
- Assist Associate Director of Digital with collecting and filing conference assets
- Take notes during meetings
- Update documents (sheets, docs, slides, etc.)
- Assist Associate Director of Digital with proofreading and checking conference materials for accuracy
- Organize files, schedule meetings, and other administrative tasks
What are we looking for?
- A commitment of 15-20 hours per week (Ideally 10am EST to 4pm EST on Monday through Friday but we are flexible on the days as long as the schedule is consistent)
- Proficient in Google Drive
- Clear verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to stay organized and be thorough
- Ability to work well with a small, fast-paced team and manage multiple tasks
- High level of attention to detail and thoroughness
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing plans and priorities
- Open to feedback and can quickly implement and adapt to it
- Background in or familiarity with communications/marketing/journalism or related field is a plus
- Sense of humor and humility
- Approach work with a can do spirit
- Knowledge of Canva, Squarespace, and Slack interfaces a plus
