Full Job Description

I. Introduction

The Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) is seeking a qualified consultant to develop a comprehensive and replicable process for conducting the President's annual performance review. This process should be efficient, not overly laborious, and capable of being implemented consistently year after year. Additionally, the process should include the development of performance benchmarks.

II. Organization Background

The Rights and Resources Initiative is a global coalition dedicated to supporting local communities and Indigenous Peoples' rights to own, control, and benefit from natural resources. We aim to foster greater global commitment and action towards policy, market, and legal reforms.

III. Project Purpose and Description

Purpose:

The purpose of this project is to develop a structured, efficient, and sustainable process for the annual performance review of the President of RRI.

Description:

The consultant will work with the RRI Executive Committee to design a performance review process that includes:

  • Clear performance benchmarks.
  • A standardized review methodology.
  • Tools and templates for consistent annual use.

IV. Scope of Work

The scope of work for the consultant will include, but is not limited to:

  1. Reviewing RRI’s current process for evaluating the President’s performance on an annual basis.
  2. Conducting a needs assessment through interviews with board members, the President, and key stakeholders.
  3. Researching and proposing best practices in executive performance reviews.
  4. Developing a detailed performance review framework, including benchmarks and evaluation criteria.
  5. Creating tools, templates, and guidelines to facilitate the review process.
  6. Providing training or resources to the board and relevant staff on implementing the new process.

V. Deliverables

1. Needs Assessment Report:

  • Summary of findings from stakeholder interviews.
  • Identification of key areas for improvement in the current review process.

2. Performance Review Framework:

  • Detailed methodology for conducting the President's performance review.
  • Defined performance benchmarks and evaluation criteria.
  • Tools and templates for annual use.

3. Training and Implementation Plan:

  • Training materials and sessions for the board and relevant staff.
  • Guidelines for ongoing implementation and process improvement.

VI. Proposal Requirements

Proposals should include the following information:

  1. Executive Summary: A brief overview of the proposed approach and qualifications.
  2. Consultant Profile: Background, experience, and relevant qualifications of the consultant or consulting team.
  3. Methodology: Description of the approach and methods to be used in completing the project.
  4. Work Plan: A work plan outlining tasks, timelines, and key milestones.
  5. Budget: Detailed budget including all costs associated with the project.

VII. Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Experience and Qualifications (25%): Demonstrated expertise in performance management and executive reviews.
  • Approach and Methodology (25%): Clarity and feasibility of the proposed approach.
  • Work Plan and Timeline (25%): Realistic and detailed work plan.
  • Budget (25%): Cost-effectiveness and value for money.

XI. Rights

RRI reserves the right to accept or reject any or all proposals and to negotiate the terms of the engagement with the selected consultant.
