Full Job Description
LAC Federal is seeking an Indexer/Archivist to work for a federal agency archival program providing processing, description, and indexing of physical and digital materials. Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Indexer/Archivist will perform physical processing of new acquisitions which will consist of printed materials, photographs, graphical materials, 3D objects, and born-digital content. You will assist with preparing materials for digitization and will have primary responsibility for correctly organizing agency historical materials by group and series and assigning accession numbers and index terms for collections, folders, and items in accordance with established agency guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inventory and organize new acquisition in accordance with established collections, groups, and series
- Assist with preparing materials for long-term storage and for digitization
- Assign accession numbers and create entries in a digital archives platform (Documentum)
- Rehouse materials in archival quality folders, sleeves, and other containers
- Ensure intellectual control over physical materials through correct labeling and arrangement
- Apply indexing terms to digital objects using an established thesaurus recommending new terms as needed
- Maintaining the master thesaurus of all terms
- Assist customers by locating and retrieving materials, answering request questions and other assistance
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Management or related field
- Experience with archival arrangement and description
- Experience with scanning and digitization workflows for archival materials including preparation, scanning, post-processing, quality control
- Experience with indexing using controlled vocubularies
- Experience with digital archival management systems (Documentum preferred)
