Amprius develops, designs, and manufactures high-performance lithium-ion cells for advanced applications. Amprius invented and perfected a 100% silicon anode that enables the highest energy density cell commercially available in the industry.
Summary
As a Senior Battery Scientist, you will plan and execute research on electrochemical energy storage, develop advanced battery materials, and design Li-ion cell chemistry platforms. In this role, you will evaluate battery components, create diagnostic testing methods, stay updated on advancements, prepare and present reports, and collaborate with project teams.
Job Responsibilities
- Conceive, plan, and execute research projects in the areas of electrochemical energy storage systems with limited supervision
- Identify & develop advanced battery materials and formulations
- Study cell-level component interactions and design chemistry platforms for Li-ion cells
- Evaluate the latest battery components, analyze their performance, and identify degradation mechanisms
- Implement & create methods of diagnostic testing for battery characterization
- Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art technical areas of responsibility and their relevance/importance to corporate needs. Prepare timely, high-quality internal reports and patent applications
- Be an effective member of internal and external project teams in key scientific and technical areas
- Analyze data and present results
Requirements
- PhD in Science or Engineering in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of subject matter/industry experience.
- Must have working experience in Li-ion pouch and cylindrical cell design.
- Extensive knowledge of electrochemical energy storage materials.
- Extensive knowledge of electrolytes, salts, solvents, and additives.
- Deep understanding of material-property relationship.
- Hands-on knowledge of battery and/or other electrochemical energy device testing and design.
- Thorough knowledge of underlying mechanisms of battery materials interaction and battery degradation.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Follow the lab and work safety policies.
Physical Demands & Work Location:
- Must be able to work onsite at Amprius’ Fremont Facility
- Be able to lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- May be required to stand, sit, squat, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, reach, lift, balance, push, and pull.
- May need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, respirator and safety shoes.
Benefits
- Comprehensive compensation package includes base salary + generous RSUs. Salary range for this role is $135,000 to $200,000 . Base salary will be determined based on knowledge, experience, and education.
