POSITION TITLE: Program Associate - Health Educator
DEPARTMENT: Community Initiatives
REPORTS TO: Director of Nutrition and Food Security Programs
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Downtown
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
HOURLY RATE: $21.50
PERTINENT INFORMATION:
- This program is based in the community. You can expect to spend at least 15-20 hours per week traveling to and attending different sites throughout Los Angeles, particularly around South LA and around the Downtown area. Parking and mileage are reimbursed.
Program Associate - Health Educator
National Health Foundation is seeking a dynamic Health Educator to support the CalFresh Healthy Living Program in communities across Los Angeles. The Health Educator will provide nutrition education & physical activity classes, conduct community and partner engagement, and support with all program activities.

Responsibilities and Initiatives
- Conduct culturally and linguistically appropriate nutrition education and physical activity classes, community workshops, and community events/fairs in low-income communities and with young children in schools.
- Provide support to other team members, including but not limited to preparing workshop & class materials, reviewing program lesson plans & curricula, assisting with program planning, etc.
- Participate and present at community education events and food distributions.
- Participate in trainings and workshops to deepen knowledge on nutrition education and physical activity for low-income, SNAP-eligible communities.
- Work with partners to plan and conduct health classes and cooking demonstrations for children and adults at schools, health care clinics and community centers.
- Maintain records of program deliverables, such as attendance sheets and lesson plans, and input data in evaluation dashboards.
- Always follows NHF policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health science, nutrition or similar field and 1-2 years of relevant experience or at least 5 years of experience conducting community health education classes.
- Knowledge of nutrition basics, physical activity, and healthy cooking.
- Experience working effectively with diverse communities.
- Ability to prioritize work, adjust to multiple demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Comfortable with public speaking and leading group activities.
- Strong team player able to work effectively and efficiently with others toward common goals.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, strongly preferred.
