EMS Supervisor
The HVAC Controls Design Supervisor will be the subject matter expert in Energy Management Systems (EMS) and oversee the installation, operation, and turnover of EMS control systems. This role works closely with the LAUSD Technical Quality Support Team (TQST) to promote energy efficiency, identify potential conservation measures, and suggest facility improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and review HVAC Controls designs and submittals.
- Analyze utility and energy usage data to identify schools for recommissioning and retro-commissioning.
- Monitor EMS data and alarms to uncover no-cost/low-cost energy conservation opportunities.
- Identify preventive maintenance measures through EMS data and alarms.
- Compare energy usage at new schools with design benchmarks to verify performance.
- Assist in updating controls specifications to comply with new federal, state, or local codes and standards.
- Support the integration of other control systems (e.g., lighting, irrigation, PV) with EMS.
- Contribute to developing standard control sequences of operation for the district.
- Draft control shop drawings and sequences of operation for small system upgrades.
- Review the feasibility of retro-commissioning measures.
- Assist in managing in-house commissioning projects.
- Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements:
Experience:
At least 5 years of professional experience in building controls or a related field.
- Proficient in programming and controls database management.
- Strong understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Solid knowledge of HVAC operations within a facility environment.
- Experience in developing and modifying sequences of operations, shop drawings, and project specifications.
Education:
- Bachelor's or associate degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, or information technology) from an accredited institution,
OR - A two-year technical degree in HVAC or electronics-related studies, with an additional 2 years of relevant experience (equivalent to year-for-year compensation for education).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with multiple controls manufacturers, such as Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases.
- Experience supporting installation personnel and contractors on project sites.
- Extensive experience in performing or assisting with the commissioning of EMS.
