Job Description

The Health and Safety Assistant Manager, as Scout’s Health and Safety representative, will provide on-site health and safety oversight, monitoring and reporting to ensure EPC contractor compliance with approved site safety plans. The Health and Safety Assistant Manager will ensure the EPC contractor’s safety program implementation is aligned with Scout’s corporate requirements. In addition, you will provide safety training and other safety support to Scout’s operating wind and solar facilities.

The Health and Safety Assistant Manager will report to the Senior Director of Health and Safety.

Job Duties

  • Monitor and ensure EPC contractor implementation of environmental and site safety procedures and programs;
  • Monitor and report on EPC contractor work to ensure compliance with site safety plans;
  • File regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agencies;
  • Conduct field safety audits to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented;
  • Submit safety audit results to Scout’s Safety Manager, Site Manager, and Construction Project Manager;
  • Actively participate in EPC contractor All-hands Safety Meetings and morning safety meetings;
  • Assist with the investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closure, and
  • Ensure EPC contractor performs new employee safety orientation and employee safety training.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and electronically file safety-related documentation for all work;
  • Serve as Scout’s safety point of contact for the EPC contractor, equipment suppliers and subcontractors;
  • Track safety non-conformances to closure;
  • Ensure potential incident and health hazards are resolved and closed adequately;
  • Work collaboratively with EPC contractor, EPC contractor EHS, Construction Site Manager and other site management personnel, as well as Scout’s Project Management Team;
  • Uphold safety standards, requirements and ensures safety protocols onsite are followed;
  • Communicate safety expectations effectively and professionally;
  • Represent the organization with composure and professional candor.
  • Provide safety-related training to Scout’s facility management teams at our operating wind and solar facilities.
  • Provide additional support to the Health and Safety team as requested, including but not limited to, preparing and providing input on policies, organizing training logistics, and addressing health and safety-related questions from members of the Scout team.
  • As requested, interface with key project stakeholders to address issues.

Timeline and Location

This position will be located at Scout’s Dollar Wind / Gonzaga facility in Hollister, California.

The target start date for this position is June 10, 2024.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience on operating wind power sites.
  • Deep familiarity with safety protocols on site for renewable energy sites.
  • Quantitative analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: Proficiency with substation, and high voltage equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Comfortable working at heights and the ability to perform essential physical functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation; this includes climbing 300' wind turbines, lifting 50 lbs. above head, and meeting the weight requirement of safety gear, 310 lbs. or less.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Benefits

Target base salary: $90,000 – $95,000 (Negotiable for the right candidate.)
