Full Job Description
About us:
Socii Capital is an early-stage technology investment fund that specializes in backing founders building ‘Software Enabled Digital Infrastructure’. Our business model is to lead/co-lead early stage rounds. We have established locations in both the US (~70% of our portfolio) and Europe, with a strong track record of successful exits (~40% of the legacy portfolio). Our current fund is early in its deployment cycle and we aim to place ~10 more bets in the next 18-24 months.
We believe that we are fundamentally differentiated in:
- We are specialists by nature. We like to focus on a small number of business models at any one time, building deep domain knowledge and expertise
- We do our own thinking, making decisions from first principles and going where that takes us rather than blindly following what’s ‘hot’ or trying to preempt how others will think
- Belief that Capital is commoditized, but Time is not
- Alignment of interest is a core value for us. In practice this means a real obsession with, and not just paying lip service to, realized returns (i.e. DPI) for our LPs and buy-in from our entrepreneurs (figuratively, and literally as investors in our funds)
- A culture that emphasizes direct interaction with our team and entrepreneurs, and eschews self-promotion and Twitter/Substack ‘thought leadership’
Role Summary:
- We are seeking a curious, ambitious and collaborative individual to join our investment team as part of our Associate Program
- This is a program for you to gain hands-on experience in the world of startups and venture capital. This role offers the opportunity to source, underwrite, and support multiple high-potential investments each year, whilst also building and managing relationships with key stakeholders
- The successful candidate will build a solid foundation for his/her career progression. This includes accelerated internal promotion, a senior operator at a startup, or founder of his/her own company/fund.
Requirements
- Intelligent, hardworking, and with a positive attitude to your work. Open-minded and with strong initiative to solve problems and explore new initiatives
- A promoter of Cognitive Diversity, Intellectual Honesty, Open Communication, and a collaborative work environment
- A genuine interest in technology startups and investing. You will have demonstrable interest in at least some key areas for the fund like AI, enterprise software or healthtech
- A willingness to take responsibility for your own work and ability to thrive in an environment where there is little micromanagement
- Bachelor's degree from a reputable university and 1-2 years of work experience in any professional role with analysis and problem solving at its core
- Based in San Francisco and willing and able to travel (North America + Europe)
- Eligible to work in US without our sponsorship
Benefits
- Flexibility to drive initiatives and significant autonomy
- First-hand exposure to all aspects of venture investing, entrepreneurship and fund management
- Very steep learning curve coupled with highly accelerated career progression for strong performance
- Access to carried interest
- A lot of healthy debates, laughter and great memories. Our team is a close-knit group of friends
- No B/S (a mutual expectation)
